Third Party:
There is no shortage of third party controllers, 4Gamers, Logic3, Madcatz but none of them come close to this masterwork which totally outclasses them all. Please dont allow yourself to be seduced by the price tag. Do the right thing get a Sony :D ... more
History: The DualShock was invented half way through the reign of the PlayStation console and was a revolution in controllers featuring new twin analog controls allowing for precise movement and a built in rumble. All present day controllers have taken something from the DualShocks brilliant formula but only one of them does it with style the new DualShock 2.
Looks: This is easily the most stylish controller on the market with its minimalistic looks fits right in compared with its rivals the Xbox pad which is a plastic brick with a huge Microsoft logo badge, and the GameCubes purple controller although extremely comfortable just looks out of place anywhere just because its so damn colourful !
The Layout: The DualShock 2 is instantly familiar to anyone who has touched a PlayStation console. On the right it has 4 main face buttons, X, O, Square and Triangle in the middle Start, Select and Analog and to the right a four button, 8 way D ( directional ) Pad. We also have the twin analog sticks adjacent to the D pad and Face buttons, the also click down to form the L3 and R3 buttons. On the shoulders of the controller we have 4 triggers, L1 and L2 which are on the left and R1 and R2 on the right.
New Features: There is only one small change in the pads layout that being the L2 and R2 trigger buttons are larger than on the original. The best new feature of the DualShock 2 is that is pressure sensitive allowing for very precise movement, making it much more simple when making characters walk, or sneak. Imagine Gran Turismo with no pressure sensitivity your car would just slip and spin !
Holding it: When you hold the DualShock 2 it really fits nicely in your hands. Your palms and little to middle finger wrap around the two bottom grips, your two index fingers command the triggers and your thumbs acess the face buttons, D Pad and analog sticks. It is extremely comfortable to hold ( even during a 5 hour button bashing ) and all buttons are very easily accessible.
Lifespan: This controllers lifespan is very good, I use my controller extensively ( to review all those games for Ciao ) and am happy to report that in 2 years of gaming it hasn't broken :D However the analog sticks do feel looser and when using the buttons it is harder to excecute precise commands but after 2 years of faithful service I can't really complain.
Colours: I have noticed that there are 3 variations in colour. You can get a shiny black sold with the original PlayStation 2 which is black but if you look closely you can easily spot small points of silver. There is Charcoal Black which is distributed with the new PStwo which is a slightly darker black and doesnt have a glittery effect, the wire on this controller is also darker. Silver is the next colour variation, a sliver controller is now being distributed along with the new silver PStwo. Although there are variations in colour each controllers funtions are identical.
Pricing: The price on these controllers vary from £14.99 - £19.99, you can also get a PS2 triple accessory pack which features a charcoal black DualShock 2, DVD remote and memory card for £29.99.
Third Party: There is no shortage of third party controllers, 4Gamers, Logic3, Madcatz but none of them come close to this masterwork which totally outclasses them all. Please dont allow yourself to be seduced by the price tag. Do the right thing get a Sony :D
Advantages: Very comfortable, many control options, loads of buttons Disadvantages: D-Pad can the thumbs after a while
I have this controller hooked up to my PC for use with pro evolution soccer 3. I previously owned the sidewinder gamepad but there are too few buttons on this controller to make full use of the game. Pro evolution soccer was designed for the playstation controller so it seemed sensible to buy the PS2 controller for use with this game. There is a special adapter out on the market that allows you to connect the PS2 controller into your PC USB port ... ...to this website to get the adapter but if you would like to know where to buy it from msg me and ill tell you the website because i dont think you can buy it anywhere else at the moment. Look and Feel: I think everyone has seen a playstation controller in there lives. The controller is very comfortable and fits perfectly into the palm of your hands. Every single button is within reach and no extra hand movements are needed to use different buttons. ...

Advantages: Easy to reach buttons, dualshock adds excitement Disadvantages: Playstation Thumb - recognised medical condition!
They have GOT to bring out a more comfortable version of this - my thumb has never been so sore! As you'll know if you read my review of the Harry Potter Quidditch game I bought last week, the combination of twiddling the controller plus the dualshock left my thumb feeling like it had been dislocated - when I got up the next day, my thumb felt numb from the knuckle down to the tip. This is a recognised medical condition - "Playstation Thumb" - it ... ...in the thumb, leaving them de-sensitized. Apparently this also affects people who use road drills! Some road drillers have found this to be permanent - is this what we gamers can expect? Is an epidemic about to sweep the land? Well, probably not - at least I can switch off the dualshock feature, but the poor road drillers are stuck with it. And it's my own fault I suppose - playing the game for far too long, into the small hours, is bound to have ...

Review: Sony Game Pad.
The Sony Game pad, overall is an extremely responsive control pad, so you can get the fast response when playing those type of games where you need to multiple things quickly. It is a very attractive pad + its great to use, very nice to handle, comfortable. Its very easy to use, buttons are well spaced out, and easy to get to. Not really, any extra features it has, besides controlling the functions of the CD & DVD player. ...

Advantages: Nice and good on the hands Disadvantages: hard to reach select and start
I have had a playstation for the past 3 years and I have noticed how this pad is better than any other. I have been to many game stores and tried different controllers and also controllers for other consoles and I have found this pad is more ergonomic. It fits your hands perfectly and you can reach the main buttons with out the need to ever look.
I have a few problems with this controller though; firstly it is hard to reach start and select as they ... ...not completely nessacary, however, these controllers do get quite warm with playing some very tensional game and the sweat on your hands does make the controller very slippy. When playing racing games, it is very hard to jump from one button to another with the same thumb and this can hurt after and hour or two.
Overall though, I think this is the best gaming pad out there, so buy it if you have a PS2 and not already got one! ...

Advantages: very comfort , less in price, etc. Disadvantages: a bit big in size
I play games on my computer. And some games are played with keyboard and some are with mouse. So those games which are played with keyboard these are very difficult to play because there are so many keys on keyboard and it is big in size. Those who want play games on computer without any difficulty then they buy Gamepad for PC. And In my opinion the SonyGamepad is the best.

Advantages: Familiar layout, stylish, motion sensor Disadvantages: No rumble, feels cheap, battery non replacable, triggers badly designed
Refinement:
The Sony Sixaxis controller is a refined version of the DualShock 2 which in turn was a refinement of the original DualShock which in turn was a refinement of the original PlayStation controller! Over the years not much has changed, if you were to take a Sixaxis back in time to 1995 the year of the original PlayStation, anyone familiar with the brand would be able to recognise its layout and looks.
Look & Feel
The Sixaxis is a stylish black colour, similar to the charcoal black of the later DualShock 2 controllers. The face of the controller has been cleaned up a bit, gone is the PlayStation logo and analog switch and light. Instead in the centre of the controller you have the Sony logo, two buttons and a very nice looking transparent PS button. Compared with a DualShock 2 the Sixaxis is very light, I'm not sure I like ...
Advantages: Balance through near-symmetry design, no batteries, comfort. Disadvantages: Dubious quality.
In our survey we asked a hundred people something they associate with Sony you said "quality". Our survey said, *DING!*, *cue siren-like sound effects!* "It's the top answer!" *Round of applause*. If I took part in that survey I can guarantee that my answer would not be "quality".
Not that I've anything against Sony, I happen to have been playing on a big Sony Trinitron TV for many years, which on the rare occasion does it show signs of age. My Sony (cassette) Walkman has been great as well. However, when it comes to Sony Computer Entertainment I've not had similar luck.
And I'm not the only one. Anyone familiar with the PlayStations of the ones and twos will know too well of early models of these consoles not lasting the pace.
