To get things going i thought id start by saying in my opinion that the improvement in recent sony products has been amazing. In the past sony have just been an expensive name with inferior quality. It seems that they have stepped up to fix this problem with the latest models, and this camcorder is a fine example.

from working in retail i get to play with alot of the new models and from first hand experience this is one of the best ive seen.

Official specs are-

HDV 1080i recording / DV compatible
Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* lens
• 1/2.9-inch ClearVid CMOS Sensor
• 6.1 Megapixel images in Still Image Recording mode
• x.v.Colour compatible
10x Optical Zoom / 20x Digital Zoom
• Super SteadyShot Optical Image Stabilisation
• 2.7-inch wide, Clear Photo LCD plus screen
• 123k wide colour viewfinder
• Assignable manual dial
• STAMINA up to 6 hours (with optional battery)

Means nothing to you? Well for starters for you high def fanatics out there, it records a full 1080 lines, meaning the best quality high def tv's can go for the moment.
Carl Zeiss is a professional lens manufacture who pride there selves on perfection in quality. I don't really have to say much more, amazing quality both on the really big lcd screen and in playback.

Not many camcorders can take very good stills. They usually have a range from about 1MP to 3MP depending on format. The new sony high def cams take up to 6MP (up to around A4 size prints) which will compete with most of the digital cameras available at the moment.

Along with a super steady image stabaliser and a very nice optical zoom range this cam fits into most of the requirements of the average customer.

Another very important point i need to mention is the manual control of the camera. The camera does have a fully auto mode built in but with the flick of a switch you can have a lot more control over feature such as white balance, focal points, recording quality, lighting modes etc. With all this plus a battery life of 6 hours, you'll be laughing.

From first hand experience I say that whether your an amature home and holiday recorder or a very keen enthusiast not much will compare to this in quality and price. This baby starts from around £800 depending where you buy.

Hope you find this useful.

Thanks.
