wow! having used a video 8 camcorder for many years, i was a bit dubious at taking the chance with this camcorder! after all, video 8 is a tried and tested format, you know where you are with it. so with a bit of trepidation i went ahead and bought this sony camcorder!!
will i look back????? never!
this is the best thing to hit the camcorder market in many years!
what can one say? it does everything one would want from a camcorder, the functions are too many for me to list and all easily accessed via a simple menu system.
you have all the usual functions, like back light compensator and auto exposure, as well as a few others, like night shot plus, this enables you to still carry on filming in near blackout, using the buit-in infra-red light. you have colour slow shot, for the times when you want to take shots of things as bright as neon lights at night.
using dvd-r discks, you are resricted to write once on the disks, but this baby allows use of dvd-rw too!! meaning that you can treat the disks as you would have a tape, record you stuff and if you don't like it, wipe it and record again!
finding your masterpieces on the disk is just as simple, when you record anything, an index of the first scene is added to the plylist, so if you need to find the recording of something 5 shots ago, simple, using the display, find the index (like the scene menu on a dvd player) and hit play! talking about playing, when you finish recording something, playback is just as easy, no need to havd any vieo machine or dvd player near you, just twiddle the multi-function switch and you are in play mode, selct the scene from the index menu, and sit there and watch and listen via the lcd screen and on-board speaker!
