Sony DCR DVD201E Camcorder

Advantages: Widescreen mode
Disadvantages: slow access to dvd, no separate memory card slot

...mode is beyond me. However Sony have finally done it and its great.
I now record footage and play it back on my TV in the correct proportions without any of that faffing about with changing the aspect mode on your TV. Also my wife doesn't appear stretched on TV thus removing all talk about 'Does my bum look big on this TV'

Theres a x10 optical zoom which is more than sufficient for the average user. Unless you have a super ...
...mini-dvd as the video footage. Sony should have provided a separate memory card slot for this. Instead it means that when you take snaps you have to connect the camcorder using the usb cable to your computer instead of simply removing a memory card and sticking it into the appropriate memory card slot.

Overall its a compact, well built camera. Very easy to use with nice and logically laid out controls and it produces high quality results. ... more

...is this one here. The Sony Handycam DCR DVD201 is a digital 8' camcorder which sports 8mm/Hi8 playback. It also has the cabability of memory stick recording. The camcorder arrives packaged nicely in its box and is accompanied with a manual to help you explore and understand the new product. The manual is clearly labelled and illustrated and proves easy to follow. Oh, let's not forget the remote control that also comes with it! The controller has ...
...It should be noted that Sony recommend playing 8mm tapes on the same camcorder that was used to record them. Other things in the manual that should be noted: -You can't record in LP speed on an 8mm tape. -To be able to record in LP, you have to purchase Hi8 tapes. **(Bascially it is best to record in LP)** So what is the picture like!? Well, for the price range thecamera comes under, you should be well pleased with the picture's quality. The ...

Advantages: Wide screen mode, image quality, DVD media
Disadvantages: Problems copying the disks, editing!!!

...child! This little Sony seemed ideal for my purposes. It’s small, light and when I pop a newly finalised DVD into my player, image quality and sound are simply superb. This method of recording is so convenient it’s untrue. The DVD’s can record for 30mins at standard quality mode. You can also take an almost limitless number of photographs, which, thanks to the 1 mega pixel resolution and decent Carl Zies lens, make respectable snaps when printed ...
...camera are of typically high Sony standard. The screen is clear and will automatically adjust it’s contrast in direct sunlight, meaning it’s still useable when outside. The camera also has an excellent colour viewfinder, with respectable resolution. One problem with this camera is the cost of the mini DVD disks. There are two types of disk available: DVD-R (on which you can record only once) and DVD-RW (on which you can record multiple times). At ...

a great little camcorder

Advantages: writes straight to mini dvds so can be played on most dvd players and computers with a minimum of work
Disadvantages: two recording modes vr mode and video mode but only video mode is easily played back and vr mode is slightly easier to use

the sony handycam is the first camcorder i have ever owned so i felt it was important to find one that was going to last for a long time with all the technological advances that there are at the moment and i think that this is the one to do it. it has standard modes as well as widescreen modes, and it records straight onto mini dvd. the disadvantages are that the dvds only last for 30 mins on short play mode although there is long play mode which ...
...however you can get double sided disks so it only takes a second to swap them over. the adantage of dvds over tapes is that the quality is far better and you can write over them over and over again with no loss of quality, another advantage is that every thing you record is put into a menu so you do not have to mess around rewinding and fast forwarding the items to find exactly what you want to watch. ...
