Sony DCR-DVD405 Strengths: Easy to use, good picture quality,good design,touch screen, memory stick slot for still picture. Weaknesses: should include minidvd media to get started Summary: Overall I am very pleased with this purchase, bought it just for $648 thru pricgrabber (beach camera). Before decided to purchase this, I'd been considering another model from sony which is DCR-DVD505. however the differences between 405 and 505 were minim. I went to local retailer to compare these models and the picture quality were just about the same. the differences were only bigger lcd screen. 505 has 3.5 instead of 2.7" and 4megapix for still features. save your money and buy this instead.
there is also a big improvement over 403 (last year model).it has an option to store still pictures onto memory stick.
however there are few things I dont like from this camcorder. Every time I use dvd media other than sony brand, it shows the warning "sony disc recommended". and dvd media should be included as one of standard accessories
I think this is the best dvd camcorder in the market sofar,tons of great features like night shot, dolby digital sound and touch screen.
I highly recommend this model for everyone especially for point and shot customers.

The DCR-DVD405E features Memory Stick Duo Slots to help store images produced from Still image recording. Sound is also realistically reproduced thanks to Dolby Digital 5.1ch surround sound. It also features Carl Zeiss Vario Sonnar T lens with a filter diameter of 30mm, to allow maximum light to penetrate the lens for enhanced picture quality.
