Having used it extensivily over the last few holidays I still find it very enjoyable to use and have no regrets (except perhaps that it is so much cheaper these days).
Best things about the camcorder are (in order of merit):
1. It is very intuitive to ... ...to use the manual.
2. It is the right size (any bigger and it would be bulky and inconvenient, any smaller and it would be to small and fiddley for my hands).
3. It has excellent picture quality .
4. The standard battery last ages (over 2 hours). You can buy bigger batteries for it but I havent had any need for it.
5. Very easy to download to a PC to capture both movies and pictures. It ... more
I spent over 3 months researching digital camcorders , decided which features are must haves, which features are nice to have and made a list of potential candidates.
When it comes to electronics that go out of date very quickly, I normally go for something in the middle, not the cheapest but not too expensive. However, I must have been feeling ill that day because I settled on the Sony DCR PC101 which was quite expensive (over £1000 at the time, when I saw other models with similar features for around £700).

6. Build quality is excellent, it feels like a quality product . Very useful as camcorders tend to get bashed around a bit during holidays.
7. It supports analogue in so that I can use it to convert all my old analogue 8mm and Hi8 to DV, download to PC, burn on DVD and watch them on my DVD player.
In summary - excellent camcorder, highly recommended and I guess the newer models (this model has now been superceded) are likely to be even better!

I bought a Sony handycam DCR-PC101E 2 years ago in Malaysia and I’ve been using it quite often for family events and so on. What I like about it in the first place is that it’s small, although not too light, but provides a good grip, so you can hold it and shoot video using only one hand. The keys are within the reach of the fingers and the LCD display (with touch screen function) is wide enough to offer a good view.
It can also be operated with ... ...of features included like night vision, picture effects, digital effects, superimposing a still image saved in the memory stick on a moving picture that is recording, I find very useful the steady shot function, which compensates for an unsteady hand when not using a tripod.
The quality of the video recorded on the mini DV tape is very good and the movies can be captured, edited and saved on a PC by connecting the handycam to the computer through ...
