Most video recordings are limited by the operators skill and this camera won't make a bad cameraman any better, however with a little bit of knowledge this camera can turn out professional quality recordings.
Picture ... ...wish (though the Memory Stick (C) pictures should be better. If this is not an important feature then drop a model to the TRV120 and save some money.
The only real bug bear I have is that the InfoLithium (C) battery supplied could be of longer life but two hours of basic recording isn't bad compared to the old days - if you want to spend £120 you can get over 12 HOURS!!!!
The perfect camera for the skilled amateur.

Most video recordings are limited by the operators skill and this camera won't make a bad cameraman any better, however with a little bit of knowledge this camera can turn out professional quality recordings. Picture quality is as close to broadcast as the amateur could wish (though the Memory Stick (C) pictures should be better. By the way, by shopping around On-Line I saved £180 on the high street price, and paid only £619 in VAT!
Advantages: Compact, Easy to use, Excellent value for money Disadvantages: Battery life is too short
I purchsed the Sony TRV320 last May as I wanted to take pictures of local streams and rivers for a website I was building about Scotland. The most important thing I found and what I would recommend to anyone looking to buy a camcorder is to read a few camcorder magazines first to make sure you buy one that suits your needs. Also look at all the adverts in the magazine to check for differences in prices. I found one shop in England advertising the ... ...offering the same spec for only £550 - I think you will know which company I chose - That was in the same magazine just two pages of a difference, imagine if I had ran and bought the camcorder after seeing just the first advert, I would have lost £100!
Anyway, the camcorder came with the LCD screen and the optional memory stick which means that you have a digital camera as well as a camcorder. This was ideal for me as I wanted to film at lots of ...

Advantages: night shot and impressive zoom and steady shot Disadvantages: battery life and 640x480 stills
This camera is excellent in my opinion as its main functions are able to be used 1 handed for example zoom and record .Steady shot makes even the shakiest hand seem smooth . Zoom is 100x digital zoom which is very clear and sharp .Focus can be set for auto ,manual or infinity which is hand for doing covert filming though net curtains lol the camera sees right through rather than focusing on the net curtain .Night shot is good for low light and is ... ...for lack of a better description and is excellent in virtually no light for catching local hooligans vandalising an other such night time activities . The LCD screen is a good size and also able to be flipped around for self filming (i wouldnt know why someone would want to but its a good feature ) also has adjustable brightness . The menu is a little akward as its on a roller type switch but its ok once you get used to it but to be honest once i ...

Manufacturer's product description
Sony's DCR-TRV320 is two cameras in one. It records digital video on affordable Digital 8 cassettes and it captures digital still images on versatile Memory Stick media. Built-in Digital Still Camera with Memory Stick allows you to store still images in digital format at 640x480 resolution in Sony's new Memory Stick memory. Digital 8 Achieves stunning picture quality, with up to 500 lines of horizontal resolution and records high quality 12-bit digital stereo audio.SteadyShot Picture Stabilization Another thing you don't need to worry about is holding the camcorder perfectly still. Sony's SteadyShot system uses sophisticated motion sensors to remove unwanted picture shake. 12-bit/16-bit PCM Digital Stereo Audio Recording offers a choice of either a single 16-bit/48kHz stereo audio track for DAT-quality recording, or two 12-bit/32kHz stereo tracks for CD sound quality. To make sure you get the maximum benefit from each charge, Sony's InfoLithium batteries have no life-shortening "memory effect." To keep you informed of remaining power, Sony's AccuPower meter spells out remaining battery time in minutes on the camcorder's LCD Monitor or Viewfinder. Super NightShot enables you to shoot subjects up to 3 meters away in total darkness. That's why Sony cut power consumption and extended battery life. Control L (LANC) provides two-way communication between the camcorder and other video devices. Six Mode Program AE provides quick and easy setting for the proper exposure, shutter, and depth of field setting for a variety of environments. There are six modes: Portrait, Beach/Ski, Sports Lesson, Landscape, Spotlight, and Sunset/Moon. Forget about cables, wires and adapters. Sony's Super LaserLink system uses infrared light to make a wireless connection from your camcorder to your television. Just use the transmitter in that is built-in to the camcorder together with the optional receiver. The Super LaserLink System features a transmission range up to 8 meters.
