There was once a time when you had to rely solely on your body clock to get on time, then someone invented the electronic clock and some time after that they came up with the idea that you could be woken up by one of these contraptions, all that was needed was a bell and a hammer to sound this, a time set mechanism and a connection to a clock to make the whole thing work. Well this was an ingenious idea, that’s what they thought. After using the thing to wake them up in a morning the sound made their ears ring and was simply just too much of a shock in the morning. After many years some clever so and so invented the electronic digital clock. Along with the invention of radio some years before someone combined
these two factors and this brings me too this item, the radio alarm clock. So that brings me to the end of this opinion.
NOT!!!!
~ What is it ~
The Sony ICF-C270 is an FM/AMclock radio that has incorporated an alarm function to wake you up in the morning (or for prompting the memory). It is quite flat (2 inches high or so) so it takes up some space on the bedside table. It is white in colour but black at the front where the red display of the clock is (and includes a red dot shown either beside the am or pm markers depending on the time of day). It is square in shape with two rounded edges.
SOUND
The sound comes from one speaker found on the top of the machine and to the top right (looking down on it). It is in stereo (I think, the radio is not that clear so I can’t really tell).
BUTTONS/ CONTROLS
On the top of the machine there is a slide control that can be used to turn the radio on, set the alarm on to buzzer or radio and off (this is always set when the alarm or radio is not in use). Just below this there are five buttons:
Clock- this is used when pressed down to change the display time using the…
Time set minute and hour buttons- press to change time to the correct time.
Sleep- press to turn radio on, to turn press the snooze/sleep off button
Snooze/sleep off- this button is used to turn the radio off when you want to instead of sliding the slider, this also allows the alarm to set automatically (assuming you have selected the slider on this) when you press it after listening before, for example.
There are three further controls, the volume and frequency control. The switch for the AM/FMchanger is also here. These are found on the right side of the machine.
DISPLAY
Half the front display is taken up with the frequency bar that moves up and down when you turn the control on the side, both FM and AM are shown on this scale. Next there is the clock in a red glow with the AM/PM dot to the side of this. Last is the model number and the makers name Sony.
EXTRA FEATURES
Obviously it comes with the mandatory wired up plug attached to the machine but it also has another thing that adds a nice touch. It has a battery compartment for when the thing is unplugged or there is a mains failure, particularly useful when there is a power cut, no resetting or anything like that, nice one. This feature requires one of those rectangle batteries and this was not provided in the package. This would enable this to be portable if you wanted to use it that way (although it is not very user friendly in terms of shape if you used it this way).
~ What’s the price ~
It currently costs about £10-£15 for a similar model (not sure if this exact one is still made), have seen many similar versions of this model in shops.

~ Final verdict ~
A nice addition to the bedside, especially when you find it hard to get up in the morning like all of us hard up students after a long hard (not) night out. Waking up to the radio in the morning is nice and not too much of a shock to the system.
I recommend similar products as well as this, not to big on the bedside table.
WAKEY WAKEY!!!
(Not as long as I would like, what else can you say on such as product)

I hate waking up :( I have come to dread the sound of my hifi turning on - it means I have to get up, and I hear it before the sound of the radio blasts me with the volume that I was listening to the night before! O

The start to your opinion had me pretty confused! A pathetic churner with VH rates...wwwwwwhat !? Fortunately you were taking the **** and an excellent, very informative opinion followed. Cheers, Timmy.
