My Experience -------------------
Do you have trouble getting up for work in the morning ? Well I used to before being made redundant and deciding to stay at home with the babies as a house husband. I used to work on the London Underground which meant at times I would have to get up at 2:30am to get the train at 3am for work and the one thing I needed was an alarm clock as the one we had was very old and not very loud. I went out shopping for one and considered many different models but in the end the best value for money at the time (about 3 years ago now) was the Sony C470 which was an alarm clock radio and seemed to suit my needs very well as I needed an alarm that was very loud, loud enough to wake me after about 4 hours sleep and believe me when your in to your sleep by that amount of time it can be hard to wake.
The Sony C470 had a dual alarm which meant that I could not only set the buzzer but a few minutes after the radio would sound out loud, it also had a button to hit on top so as I could cut it off quite quickly so as not to disturb the baby to much. My wife used to hate it but what could I do I had to get up for work and we had no spare bedrooms for me to sleep in when I was on the early shifts. It was very easy to set the alarms so when I left I just set the alarm again to wake up my wife and the kid's for school later on in the morning. The downside now and the reason I am in the market for a new alarm clock is that this alarm clock is now quite dated I want one that has DAB radio (Digital)and the dial to tune the radio is very dated. However having said that the alarm clock is still working like the day I bought it and I will put it on eBay when it is finished with as it has stayed in excellent condition. I bought it in the colour of silver which still looks modern today and the LCD display is still very bright and clearly visible even from the other side of the bedroom.
Another good feature with the Sony C470 is that you can insert batteries to give you a back up should you have a power failure in the night so no more excuses for being late for work because the alarm didn't go off lol. Also with this alarm clock you can't use the old chestnut that you forgot to put the clocks forward or back as it automatically adjusts the time for you. Below are the features of the Sony C470 very basic by today's standards but still a good solid alarm clock with no real thrills.
Features ----------- Analog Radio Tuner Dual Alarm (Two alarms can be set at different times) Bright LCD screen (Displays the time and can be dimmed) Loud Volume (This can be adjusted is very loud at maximum) Battery or/and Mains supply Snooze Alarm (Large button to hit for extra 10 minutes in bed) Easy Set Alarms (Can be set for buzzer or radio) Silver or Black in Colour Auto time set
Price + Warning ---------------------
If you do get this model I paid £24.99 be warned when using the alarm mode in radio as I have had a few occasions where the radio has for some reason slipped out of tune and stayed more or less quiet when the alarm has gone off so I would suggest setting the buzzer as a back up.
Overall ---------- Well I think that as all I can tell you about my alarm clock it has been a good reliable servant and other than the issue above I can't complain as it has lasted close to 3 years and is still as good as new, it was a good price back then and if you shop around you can probably get one for about £15 now days however I think I am going to get rid soon purely so I can get a flashy DAB alarm radio but after getting my own way with my TV not sure how I will fair I will keep you up to date and when I get my new alarm clock I will tell you all about it. I hope I have answered any questions you may have if not leave a comment and I will get back to you as soon as possible, thanks for taking the time to read my reviews.
Wake up with Sony's ICF-C470 AM/FM Dream Machine Clock Radio. Its large LED Display with Brightness Control is highly visible even at your drowsiest moments and from across the room. You can dim the display as desired, and tune in to your favorite stations with the AM/FM Tuner. Also featuring a Dual Alarm for two separate wake-up settings, this Dream Machine allows you to awake to the radio or the buzzer. Wake up to the sound of Sony - more sleep waits at the touch of the snooze bar. Dream Bar shuts off alarm temporarily to allow a few extra minutes for snoozing before it turns on again. Antennas include built-in ferrite bar antenna for AM, and wire antenna for FM.
