Although televisions all look the same now a days, some are just that bit special. A good one must produce a picture that is comfortable and clear to watch, with audio that adds to the visual experience.

Unpacking and installing this television is best done by two people, as it is very heavy and cumbersome to move. The stand that is supplied is quick and easy to assemble, but placing the television onto it can be a bit fraught.
Upon first switch on, both terrestrial and digital channels are automatically tuned in and set to the correct numbers, i.e. BBC1 on 1, etc. If you have a smart link DVD recorder / video recorder this makes for a very easy recording operation. A drop down menu system shows the available programmes to record or you can set the television to switch itself on when your favourite programme is about to start.
As terrestrial transmitters are going to be fazed out over the coming years, it would be unwise not to replace your old television with one that is not digitally ready. With so many channels now available free to view (even if most of them aren't actually worth watching) the 'favourite list' function on this television should come in handy. Simply select the channels that you watch most often and you can access them through a menu box similar to that on your web browser. But here we have a problem. Every time you switch the television off, the list is erased. I have spoken to Sony UK about this, only to be told that this may be solved in the future. As this model can receive updates through the digital signal, I can only wait and see if this is true.
The picture is extremely sharp in both digital and analogue, and the screen format changing automatically to accommodate the transmission, i.e. wide screen, normal and even a zoom option. The sound can be adjusted to suit the type of programme being watched. Bass from the speakers is deep and rumbles the whole house when watching a film, but still allows speech to be heard clearly.
To the rear of the box are two scart sockets, left and right audio output and ariel socket. Connection to an amplifier is a great way of producing an even bigger sound, also allowing you to listen to all the digital radio channels now on offer from the BBC, etc. When listening to the radio, the television enters 'radio mode' which acts as a screen saver.
I would recommend checking that you are in range of a transmitter that currently sends out a digital signal before swapping your old television for a new one. To do this, go to the following link, http://www.freeview.co.uk/canireceivefreeview/index.html And enter your postcode.
I bought mine from, www.itsyourmoney.org.uk and selected the home shopping option and delivery was free.
Advantages: Built in Freeview tuner as well as normal tuner, and as TV's go its beautiful! Disadvantages: Being Sony it is more expensive, but it is worth it
There are many televisions out there can feature flatscreens and 28" viewing platforms, but in terms of performance and what you get for your money - I have not come across any that compete with this one from our old favourites Sony.
It features a 28" WEGA (66cm viewable) tube, front AV ports, 2 Scarts for your DVD and Playstation2 if your like me, a truly beautiful picture and high quality sound from the built in Freeview decoder and the build ... ...technology (in this case it is called WEGA).
Those still worried about Freeview, don't panic - this set also has an analogue decoder built in incase you miss the grainy image of Channel 5 (sorry..five)
Let me say that I am not one to rush out and buy any old pretty silver box, but having compared this to other similar television from the likes of Toshiba and LG available for slightly less, I was convinced by the shear quality and quantity of features ...
