Changing your television in these days is very difficult, there are so many good ones on the market. All different sorts, plasma, digital etc., wide range of prices and hundreds of manufacturers. Having had Sony televisions for years now with no problems we decided to buy another, but which one?
Visits were made to all the tv shops in our area and after a lot of looking and a lot of chatting we decided to go for the KD-28DX40U Sony Trinitron Digital TV. Having made that decision we now needed to know where the best deal was. We found this in our local Warehouse Shop where it was on special offer. Money off as well as a free Sony DVD player. After VAT the price was £949.49.
It has now been installed since May of last year and we are very pleased with it. The wide 32" screen took a bit of getting used to after our much smaller one, but we wouldn't go back to the square shape now. The picture is extremely good. The stereo is spectacular, but also needs a bit of getting used to as some background noises seem to come from all parts of the room. Bit disconcerting when you can hear people talking in your kitchen!!!
We already had a video recorder, a Mutsui, but had no problems setting it up. The TV has two Scart Sockets for VCR and DVD and sockets for Hi Fi equipmernt.(Scart Leads were not supplied)
A FEW WORDS OF WARNING ========================
If you elect to buy this television, or indeed any tv with a stand, please don't make the same mistake as us. They may be set up in the store, but that doesn't mean they arrive at your home made up. It was free delivery and came the next day, brilliant we thought, until we found the stand was flat-packed. I found it quite easy to construct, although from time to time I could have done with a third hand. It took just over the hour.
This was not the main problem though; when the stand was put in position my husband and I went to lift the television on top. My husband managed to lift it two inches and I couldn't even lift it off the floor. No wonder, on investigation we found the handbook said it weighed approximately 65kg.
Now what, we couldn't watch it on the floor. Luckily our next door neighbour was having a new fence erected, so I cheakily asked the two strapping young fellows if they could come to the aid of two elderly people. There was no hesitation on their part and within five minutes the tele was sitting on its stand.
There were still problems to come. Once on the stand all the cables had to be positioned, (remember the tele was too heavy for us to move), I had to lay flat on my back and squeeze behind the tele. I did it though after a lot of huffing and puffing. So remember always make sure the retailer will deliver and install your new tele!
It was easy to tune, most of it automatic and the handbook was easy to follow with words and pictures. With the tuning done we were soon sitting back watching our new acquisition in no time at all.
Apart from the difficulties we experienced while installing the tv, which was really our fault, I would not hesitate to recomment the Sony Trinitron Digital TV KD32DX40U.

In late 2003 I purchased a Sony TV, video and surround sound system. I chose Sony because I'd heard that their reliability was legendary & I limited my choice to the Sony brand for compatibility. I searched their range for the best deals and researched several review sites - eventually choosing an KD32DX40 IDTV, a DAV-S 500 home theatre system and an SLV-SE820 VCR. Within 12 months the processor in the VCR failed. 12 months later my DAV-S surround sound system stopped playing dvds & cds and would not eject the inserted music cd.
I have been told that the DVD controller board is faulty and will cost in excess of £120 to fix + engineers time.
The dvd player played ok at first - it wasn't the awesome, breathtaking cinema type performance I was led to expect, but a rather more faded affair - the rear speakers seemed incredibly feeble ...
