Advantages Excellent picture quality, easy to use remote control, plenty of port connections, good sound

Disadvantages Can be slow to respond, no wi-fi conection,

I brought this LCD HD TV about a year ago. I wish to share my experience of using this tv to help you make an informed decision of buying this tv or not. On setting up and installing this tv it seemed pretty straightforward. The instructions were clear and easy to read as it made use of diagrams to show how to fit the tv stand underneath the tv. It also showed how to tune in and operate the tv and diagrams to show how to conect the tv to other various devices compatible with it like camera, blue ray player etc.
My initial opinions of the tv once set up and running is that the picture quality is amazing for a tv of this size. The colours are sharp and deep, the contrast is excellent even dark pictures the details still show up. Honestly compared with the other LCD Tv's out there the picture quality on this tv is one of the best i have seen. You have to see it to believe it. And this is in Standard Definition. I have not seen the pictures in HD but just imagine how clear that will be if its already this clear in Standard definition. I used to have Sony TV before, they make good tv's and certainly do last long. My last Sony tv lasted 10 years!
I thought the sound quality was pretty good considering the tv of this size. Big screen tv's of 40 inch needs big sound to compliment it and the Sony KDL-40W5500 does not dissapoint here. Sound is good with good balance of bass and treble and the one thing i liked in particular is the front surround sound system which spreads the sound wonderfully throughout the room.
This tv has a range of features. It has 100 hz motionflow and this is good to use if you are watching sports such as football as this reduces blurring. Theres eco power saving modes, built in tv guide for showing tv programmes during the day, internet widgets, a range of ports - this tv has 4 hdmi ports and usb port and many more. I also liked the layout of the remote control - the buttons are all in the right places where you need them without you struggling too much to find them.
The downsides of the KDL40W5500 are that its slow to start up, especially when its left in stanby mode although i had noticed that this does not happen all the time. Also when you start it up it can be slow to respond especially when changing channels so abit of patience is needed here. Also i noticed most of the connection ports seem to be at the back of the tv. I felt that more ports could of been put on the sides so make wired connections more easier. Also this tv has no wi-fi built in so if you want to see internet content you have to use wired ethernet connection. Also when setting up the tv the tv guide can take forever to install - i recommend to skip this once the tv has been tuned and when you put the tv in standby mode it will automatically update itself, saving you time.
Overall im happy with owning this LCD TV from Sony and im glad i did- you pay what you get for, it runs well, not had any breakdowns yet and i feel the main selling point of this tv is the picture quality - ive read this from other reviews and i have to agree with this it is superb. The tv also looks good too and its slim.
