Hi, this review is about Sony’s earphone MDR-EX300SLB.

The word sonus, meaning sound in Latin and also the term sonny boy that was used in America, which mean bright youngster, is what was put together to create the name Sony.

Now Sony is a household name, everywhere you go, Sony is there. TV in the living room, Playstation in the bedroom, CD player in the car, mobile phones in every pocket.

Design

The design is an in-ear headphone, basically that the headphone goes in the ear rather than covering the ears. The earphones is pushed a few millimetres into the ear canal, this helps prevents external noise coming in whilst listen to the sound coming from the earphones. Also with the design of the earphones, it gives yourself and people around you some privacy. You can enjoy listening to your classics and the way the earphones fit in your canal, people would not have to hear music they do not like. Unless you turn the volume up so loud that it’s clearly heard by people around you but this is very bad for your ears. The downside of the design is that you may not hear something that you should. For example, you may not hear a car coming from a corner while you are crossing the road or you may not hear the guy chasing you saying you dropped your wallet.

It comes with a 1.2 meter long cable but also an extension is available. Without the cable, the earphones weighs 5 grams.

Sound Quality

The MDR-EX300SLB earphones has 13.5mm driver unit that gives faultless sound. You are able to enjoy the vocal and instrumental sounds that are clear to the ear drums.

With the frequency range of 5 – 24,000 Hz, it has a wider range than older earphones.

Comfort

The Sony’s MDR-EX300SLB has an innovatively vertical position towards the ears. This is to be more comfortable with its closer fitting to the ears. But maybe it needs getting used to because I do not think it is that comfortable. The earphones feels like having sticks in the ears, they are noticeable. I prefer to have as little feeling of the earphones as possible. The earphones weigh 5 grams, which is average, but the design of the vertical position makes it feels heavier than normal.

Also the round shape of the earphones seems to get in the way.

Many earphones come in hybrid silicone rubber ear buds now, so does this. The rubber is suppose to seal in the ears, first for comfort, and secondly to decrease a lot more of external sound. Maybe I am old fashion, but I do prefer the older design of the plastic. The rubber feels like having a sink plug in the ears.

Extra

There are 3 sizes of the ear buds. There is pair of small, medium and large.

An extension cord of 0.9m is included.

The earphone comes with a small carry case for use when the earphones are not in use. Unless you do not mind laying the earphones around, you could keep it safe in the case.
