Hi, this review is about Sony’s earphone MDR-EX500LP.
Manufacturer
In 1946, Akio Morita and Masaru Ibuka are the founders of Sony. They were originally called Tokyo Tsushin Kogyo, which is interpreted as Tokyo Telecommunication Engineering Company. Morita and Ibuka earned a living by repairing radios and manufacturing voltmeters. They were always designing and manufacturing new electronics. An automatic rice cooker was one of their first innovations, which was very successful.
The name Sony was created by the following put together. The word sonus, meaning sound in Latin and the term sonny boy that was used in America, which mean bright youngster. This is self explanatory.
Now Sony is a household name, everywhere you go, Sony is there. DVD player in the living room, stereo in the bedroom, CD player in the car, mobile phones in every pocket.
Sound Quality
With the frequency range of 5 – 25,000 Hz, this gives a wider range frequency than older earphones but it is basically standard with most new earphones of this time.
The MDR-EX500LP earphones have a 13.5mm driver unit and a multiple layer diaphragm for a wide dynamic range and high resolution sound. The uniqueness about this earphone, which I like because of my type of music, is the sonic performance. This provides you with a deep bass outcome.
Design
The design type of the MDR-EX500LP is an in-ear headphone (earphone), rather than covering the ears, basically that the headphone goes in the ear. The earphones is pushed a few millimetres into the ear canal, this helps prevents external noise coming in whilst listen to the sound coming from the earphones. You can happily listen to your music and the way the earphones fit in your canal, people around you would not be distracted from your music. Unless you turn the volume up so loud that it’s clearly heard by people around you but this is very bad for your ears drums. You may have experienced like I have on a train, where it’s a good time to think but the peace and quiet doe not exist as someone has their music loud enough, I could hear the lyrics clearly. I would suggest respecting others privacy and try not to get deaf.
The disadvantage to these types of earphones is that you may not hear something that was important. For example, when the phone rings or whilst crossing the road, you might not hear on coming traffic from around the corner.
As you may see in the picture of the MDR-EX500LP, it has this silver round shape. This is the unique design for it is to be fitted in the ear like a glove. Instead of hanging on the ears, these earphones balance vertically.
The length of the earphone is 1.2 metres. Long enough to have the music player in your pocket (waist area normally) so the earphones can reach your ears.
The entire earphone, meaning cable and plug too, comes to a super light weigh of 998 grams.
Comfort
Some people say the new innovatively vertical position of the earphones is to be more comfortable with its closer fitting to the ears, which get the saying “fits like a glove” but I have still not got used to this type of design.
There are 3 sizes of the hybrid silicone rubber ear buds included in the box this earphone comes in. Obviously a pair of small, medium and large. This offers a more of a tailored fit. The shape of the rubber bud is supposed to help seal the earphones in the ears, which maintain the sound quality and gives a comfort feel.

Summary
The MDR-EX500LP earphone is made by a trusted manufacturer with a good reputation. The price may be slightly high compared to many but for the high quality sound it gives, it is worth paying for. The comfort in my opinion is the let down but the design and sound quality makes them get a 4 stars.
