Hi, this review is about Sony’s earphone MDR-E755.
Manufacturer
Sony is a household name, everywhere you go, Sony is there. MP3 player in the car, Playstation in the bedroom, TV in the living room, mobile phones in every pocket. The word sonus, meaning sound in Latin and also the term sonny boy that was used in America, which mean bright youngster, is what was put together to create the name Sony.
Sony was founded by Akio Morita and Masaru Ibuka in 1946. They were always designing and manufacturing new electronics. One of their first innovations was the automatic rice cooker that was successful. They were originally called Tokyo Tsushin Kogyo, which is interpreted as Tokyo Telecommunication Engineering Company. Morita and Ibuka earned a living by repairing radios and manufacturing voltmeters.
Design
This is basically an in-ear design; the earphone goes in the ear rather than covering the ears, which are called headphones but most people tend to mix the names. The earphones is pushed a few millimetres into the ear canal, this helps prevents external noise coming in whilst listen to the sound coming from the earphones.
This is a Sony’s classic design of earphones, black was the colour and it has the brand logo on each bud. Also, one of the bud has the letter L for left and the other have the letter R for right. Simply stating which bud goes into which ear.
Also with the design of the earphones, it gives yourself and people around you some privacy. You can enjoy listening to your classics and the way the earphones fit in your canal, people would not have to hear music they do not like. Unless you turn the volume up so loud that it’s clearly heard by people around you but this is very bad for your ears.
The weigh is next to nothing, without the cable, the earphone weighs only 6 grams. The cable is 1 meter long, I would prefer it to be longer to prevent the earphones from popping out my ears when I move around.
Sound Quality
The MDR-E755 earphone gives great deep bass and clear treble sound. This is due to the acoustic twin turbo design. With the frequency range of 12 – 22,000 Hz, it gives an excellent sound range for all preference. Although many newer earphones have a range of 4 – 26,000 Hz, this earphone does the job
Comfort
I prefer the old plastic mould design than the new vertical position earphone design with the hybrid silicone rubber ear buds. It does not feel like my ears are blocked and it feels more comfortable.
Price
Date: 13th October 2009 Play.com is offering it for £9.99 and on amazon.co.uk, they are selling it new for £7.50. But even cheaper, there is currently a seller selling a genuine Sony’s MDR E755 earphones for £4.50. What a bargain.
Warning
The disadvantage to these types of earphones is that you may not hear something that was important. For example, when the phone rings or whilst crossing the road, you might not hear on coming traffic from around the corner.
