==== Sony Walkman MDR-G42LP "Street style" headphones - My review ==========

INTRO

The Sony Walkman MDR-G42LP headphones are defined as " Over Ear Neckband" type because of their design which make this product quite a successful one when matched with Sony renowned quality of sound and durability. They fall into the low price category but don't let that affect your judgment, you are bound to be impressed by them! Here is my review with my personal opinion of this product but let's start with the main features first...

FEATURES

• Stable even when playing sports, dancing and walking
• Sony Acoustic Twin Turbo Circuit for deep bass sound
• 30 mm gold-plated driver unit for high-quality sound
• Light-weight, portable headphones

MY REVIEW

OVERVIEW
As soon as I put them on I knew I was onto something good. These headphones beat all my expectations. I was originally a bit unconvinced by the idea of an ear mounting design which would hold on your ears rather than your head as headphones classically do. However the design is so well made that these headphones surpass in comfort all other kinds I have. They stay very steady on your ears without hurting and they are very light too (just 63 grams). For these very qualities, this product is suited also for active people who want to use headphones while playing sports, dancing or just simply walking of course. I am personally more of a couch potato but I find them very useful when travelling on trains and bus. I especially like the fact that they can easily be concealed by long hair and, in general, are not immediately eye catching. Another plus point for me is the fact that the band never actually touches your hair so that you don't have to sacrifice your hairdo in order to listen to some music... some people care about this too of course. You don't want to get to work or school with a mushroom head.

PRESENTATION
They come in a plastic sturdy case which can be eventually used to store them away. There are no extras in the box, only the headphones with their wire and the usual leaflets (European guarantee and safety instructions). Nothing superb but the box is very nice and I am not going to throw it away.

HOW IS THE SOUND?
Excellent, just excellent! Sony is of course well known for the sound quality of their products and this one is up to the expectation. With its gold plated plug the durability and quality is guaranteed. Also the bases are very good and the padded magnets are large enough to "cover" your hearing from excessive environment noises (such as people blabbing around you or the roaring engine of the bus) so that you won't need to blast the volume at its maximum in crowded places as it often happens, especially with earphones.
I read that these headphones use an acoustic turbo circuit to reproduce clear treble and extended bass response sound. Whatever this acoustic turbo circuit thing is, it surely does a great job. The sound is crisp and clear, not something you would really expect from a low-range product. As a matter of fact, the cost of these is quite low and the quality/price ratio very high.

HOW IS THE PRICE
These headphones come quite inexpensive. Usually between £10-£15. I purchased them on Play.com for £9.99 but I have heard that sometimes they are to be found even cheaper in shops (someone said £5 but that's on the verge of the urban legend) but £10 is more than a fair price for these beauties.

ANY BAD POINTS
Honestly I could not find a fault with these headphones. They are just good. Of course they don't have volume control but I never cared for that.

FINAL WORDS
What else can I say, these headphones are just superb for their price, quality and comfort... and let's admit it, they look cool. Perfect for all sorts of uses, from tennis playing to bus travelling. I can suggest them to anybody who is looking for a new pair of non professional headphones. Buy them for £15 is decent, for £12 is very good but buy them for £10 and it's a deal! Consider also that I am very fussy with my headphones, if they are not what I expect they go right into the bin... but I'm here praising them. To me this was the last best buy of 2008.
