...woes when I purchased these Sony MDR V150 headphones!
A pointer - don't be put off by the fact they're labelled DJ headphones because they are suited for more than just DJing.
DESIGN:
Traditional headphones don't look very appealing but these Sony headphones are superb because the earcups are much smaller in design to traditional headphones and fit nicely on the ear instead of virtually engulfing it.
...hot and sweaty. However, these Sony headphones have a soft leather, almost cushion-like feel and even when running, don't cause the ear to get extremely sweaty, though this is inescapable if you're working out.
The headband on quite a few headphones I've owned in the past has been very uncomfortable due to the cheap plastic which is quite hard. However, I've found the headband on these headphones to be flawless for comfort. Some cheap ... more
Many people such as myself have a real problem with standard earphones which are designed to sit in the ear and are usually provided when you purchase mp3 or any personal stereo player. Supposedly such earphones are ideal for people who go jogging or working out in the gym. Sadly, for quite a few people, these earphones consistently fall out of their ears when doing any sort of rigorous activity causing the need to readjust. Hardly the easiest thing in the world to do when you're in the middle of lifting a barbell!

Traditional headphones don't look very appealing but these Sony headphones are superb because the earcups are much smaller in design to traditional headphones and fit nicely on the ear instead of virtually engulfing it.
I also DJ occasionally and the fact that the earcups are reversible (i.e. you can move them around to face the other way and hold them up to your ear without having to put the headband on) is fantastic for cueing up songs and trying to listen to what track you're already playing with the spare ear when beat-mixing. This probably won't be of much relevance to a lot of people but then again these are supposedly 'DJ headphones.'
The headband is not too thick either and is barely noticeable when you put it on your head. Another advantage (well for me anyway) with the headband is that it won't flatten your nicely styled hair or cause a build up of sweat but that's another story.
The cable length is a perfect 2 metres, leaving greater flexibility as to where you put your mp3 player or stereo when exercising. One problem I had with some of the earphones in the past was the appallingly short cable length, which meant I had to attach the mp3 player to my t-shirt - not an ideal place for me! At the same time I have found the cable length is not too long and so you won't be tripping up over excess cable whilst jogging on the treadmill etc.
Overall, I think the design is solid and quite chic which again reflects the fact these are supposed to be DJ headphones, which by and large get battered about. I have had these headphones for over a year and for the large part they've been sat at the bottom of my kitbag and have been dropped numerous times. They still work perfectly, which is a testament to the solid design.
COMFORT:
Second to none! In ear headphones or earphones can feel quite awkward at times whilst some traditional headphones engulf the ear and cause your ear to get very hot and sweaty.
Some cheap headsets don't include the ability to adjust the size of the headband but these ones do so if you feel the band is digging in to your head, you can simply adjust accordingly.
SOUND:
Neither too tinny or overkill on the bass - just right. Sony are one of the leaders in audio technology and most would expect impeccable sound quality, especially for DJs. I have no problem with the sound on these headphones because I personally don't like too much bass when I'm listening to music. The frequency is much higher than standard earphones which is to be expected given the fact the earcups are larger and don't actually fit inside the ear but around it (health and safety after all!)
I have used these headphones for DJing and they have been more than adequate for cueing up tracks with loud music and awful singing going on in the background, and at the same time, they drown out all the background noise whilst at the gym.
DURABILITY:
As stated earlier, I have dropped these quite a few times over the last year but due to their rugged, solid design they still work perfectly. It would take a large amount of pressure to snap the earcups from the headband or snap the headband. I haven't set out to intentionally damage mine to see if they still work but suffice to say I've probably battered them at the bottom of a kitbag with trainers inside and have had no problems.
PRICE:
The price varies between shops and online sites from roughly £9.99 - £15.99 though these have come down in price recently to on average about £12.99. This may sound quite a lot for a pair of headphones but as most DJs would confirm, a decent set of headphones usually costs well over this price. I have found that earphones are cheaper, but often break more easily and you end up having one earphone out of operation which is very annoying. I was lucky and bought them on special offer at £9.99 as I needed a new pair and have not had to replace them in the whole 12 months since purchase. When using earphones for the gym I probably went through at least 5 pairs in a year and so the cost adds up.
I think for the quality, durability, design and adaptability for many activities, the price is more than justifiable - a bargain I would say. Just shop around for the lowest price.
...bought myself a pair of sony mdv150 head phones. I picked them up in tescos costing 12 pounds. In the past I have personaly owned about 25 pairs of head phones ranging from the very cheap to the quite expensive. These small light weight head phones are miles ahead of any of the other cheap head phones i Have tried and can even hold their own amongst the mid range ones i have used personaly. Now obviously these are not the worlds greatest headphones ... ...in my honest opinion, they weight next to nothing are comfortable in prolonged use and are so versatile they are big enough to use for bedroom deejaying and small enough to wear while walking the streets without looking like a muppet. Sound quality is great and the cable is long enough to give you movement but not so long that you fall over it. it comes with the 3.5mm stereo jack on the end to suit your mp3 player and also comes with the larger jack ...
