Hey there guys and girls, 1st review in a while, bin mad busy with studies and work!
Anyway, I'm gonna do a quick review on my SONY XB500 headphones. I've had these headphones for two years now and they are my second pair. I must say that, they are the second pair because i showed them to a friend, who straight after trying them out for the first time wanted to buy them off me! So I let him have em for a good price ( mainly 'cause I knew i could get em at a good price again).hink the In my honest opinion, I think the XB500's are the best headphones on the market even still, as they provide such quality in build and sound for the price that I haven't come across anything that compares.
The XB500's come in normal plastic packaging like most SONY headphones, but in the packaging you get a very nice and silky headphone bag to carry them round and keep them safe when stored, a 3.5 to quarter inch adapter (small jack to big jack) and of course the headphones themselves.
The headphones are made entirely from plastic for the body with the headband covered in a kind of feux leather ( could be real - not sure) but after two years it is not peeling or looking shabby at all (and i wear these outside almost everyday). The ear muffs are the softest and most luxurious you will ever feel! They cushion your ear like no headphone before (seriously) just squeezing them even now feels great (is that wrong?!)
The ear muffs completely surround my ears and form a seal against the sides of my head allowing no leakage and bringing the music right into my mind.
I do find that the fatigue from wearing the headphones can set in after about an hour of listening with them headphones beginning to feel tight on my head, but this could be because i have a small head and have to have the heaadband on the smallest setting (which is also the tightest.
The cable on the XB's is great. Its the specialflat cables that dont ever tangle up which i love, but i do find that the cable is too short and it often catches a snag on my arm or clothes yanking the headphones almost off my ears with is annoying to say the least.
Sound quality on the XB500's is very, very good! They have a good all round range allowing you to hear pretty much everything in the mix and clarity is very good. I will say that they can sound dull next to something like a pair of beats, but the beats are more like reference headphones that give a very clear, but flat sound, which if i'm honest, unless your a music producer who needs headphones that don't colour in order to listen to your mix, or you don't like bass, then there's not much point in shelling out for something like the beats, you just won't be using them for the right thing.
The XB500's on the other hand, I believe really do have the listener in mind as the clarity is good, but that bass is second to none allowing you to really hear deep and rich lows and sub basses without turning the volume up so high it hurts or fiddling around with eq's and presets that are just a pain in the backside.
I have a 3rd gen ipod (nothing fancy in terms of audiophile spec) and i alway have the eq set on 'flat' as it gives me great volume, clear vocals, mid and high, but with the XB's i also get great bass...
The XB500's can be purchased for as little as £40 quid now as they are getting a little old, but they will still batter any other headphones at that price range and considerably higher.
I reccomend these highly.

Hang on.. you're saying that after a year or something of using them and allowing the headphones to absorb your.. lets say 'essence'... your mate bought them of you? Did they not, you know, wonder what the smell was or why there was wetness around the ear padding? Your mate is really a legend, I must sell him my old marathon shorts.
