The head unit is the brain of an in car audio system, this is where everything is controlled and feed through to the rest of the system. As a basic unit it has the essential line outputs for front and rear. Although there is no specific sub woofer output you can channel a sub though a split cable rear system. I can therefore only recommend this head unit for basic users who wont overdrive them or to sound freaks like me if they intend to run it as a player/control unit.
I find the digital bass inaffective, this is better acheived through adjustment of the db-level on the subs amp.
The radio works fine like other radios nothing special, but a lack of DAB control would put more serious users off the unit.
CD control playback even contains the Text of the album for sony record label CD's. However I find the scrolling stops after a while of the text names for both MD/CD and this can be annoying if you want to know the rest of the track.

A hand remote control unit can be used but I find on a small car such as a saxo they are a hinderance rather than helpful.
Advantages: Use re-writable disks, great colourful animated display Disadvantages: Clumsy to remove panel, expensive, no support for longplay format

I bought the Sony MD Car Stereo to play mini-discs that I have recorded from my CD collection. Why MD? Well, mainly because they\'re cute - but they are also cheap, re-writable, and convenient. I was fed up with poor quality sound from rather aged cassette tapes, and wanted something with a bit more ooomph!
This particular model caught my eye because it has a MD player built into the head unit, but the loading slot is hidden behind ... ...you need to change the disk). This leaves loads of room on the panel for a really cool display - with lots of colourful lights (they don\'t all have a meaning, but they sure look good!).

I bought my unit in Argos, and it came with a year\'s free theft insurance. You have to make sure that you take the front panel out of the car when you leave it - otherwise you are not covered by the insurance. However, the unit politely bleeps ...

Oh i love the design, ithink that it looks great - the facia. It is an in-car minidisc player with radio. It gives your speakers 4 x 26 watt rms power output which i think is really good for something of that size, it has a 10 second shock resistant memory, title scroll / shuffle / repeat functions, 8fgs digital filter, one bit d/a converter. The radio has many radio stations from fm, mw, lw and more. I think that this is good as it offers you a ...

It is an exceptional quality car audio disc system. I have found this to be of superb build quality, something it should not be underestimated by a leading household brand like sony.
I was looking for car audio system which could output reasonable medium wattage, in this 50watt output to both the two front and two back speakers I had in my car. I found the quality of this output to be very good and recommend this item to anyone who is looking for ... ...I have had this system int he car for 5 years and it still works very well.
Clarity is in the sound and has multi colouy display. At first, I have found the controlling feaures of this system rather confusing as it very colourful output features and can be distracting, particularly when you are driving on the road...
I have purchased this item through Argos who supplied a technician to visit on-site (literally at any site in the UK!) to install ...

Advantages: great looks brilliant power and sound Disadvantages: unless you get a mulitchanger for cds not worth it.
Sony has designed a great stereo here. I first bought this unit to play my minidiscs on the move. I bought it from a local dealer for 279.99 with a set of sony 200w speakers and a sony 10 disc multichanger. The sound quality is brilliant with 4 channels providing power for 50w speakers which can easily power my 6'9's and front 5' speakers. easy to use and great looks with extremley good instructions and one of the easiest headunits around to fit. ...

The Sony MDX-C6500 is an in car minidisc tuner which has a superb build quality - which is what is expected from a company like sony. I brought this item based on the fact that it was sony and what the unit it self had to offer. Having four lots of 50watt outputs allows superb sound with excellent clarity. The three step bass control gives distortion free sound through my 7" by 10" speakers. There is a multicolour display which is ablsolutly wonderful ... ...display is large and clear. It is a fully graphical display with all digital sound controls. The minidic feature is super, the scrolling name and song display looks wicked! It also offers external MD/CD changer control, and has external outputs for an amplifier if needed. In conclusion its one of the best MD tuners avaliable at an excellent price. ...

Sony's MDX-C6500R head unit MD tuner has a lot of outstanding features such as D-Bass, SSIR-EXA ABC tuner, bass/treble adjust, 30 tuner presets, CD/MD control and CD text. The wide bit-stream processing technology maintains 20-bit precision through the recording process, for clearer reproduction of delicate, low-level music. The MDX-C6500R also has Shock Resistant Memory that stores the audio data stream from a CD or MD in a memory buffer. If the laser pick-up mistracks, audio still flows from the buffer preventing an interruption.
