Sony Multiscan 200EST

I bought the E200, which is actually an updated version of the 200ES. The menu controls on the front are different than the ES. I had been using four different computers at the library, and one computer had a 200ES monitor, which blew away all the others for clarity and sharpness of text. Avoiding glare and eyestrain was an important factor for me in choosing a monitor, so I knew that the E200 was the one I would eventually purchase when I bought my home computer. I have now had a Sony Multiscan 200EST for about two years, moving around the world with it, and it's still fantastic. The colors, the sharpness and the clarity of the picture are still much better than a lot of other monitors I've seen, including active TFT flat panel (only Sony Vaio has monitors of the same quality - what I've seen so far). Having an IBM G76 at work you realize how much more your eyes are going to relax sitting in front of the Sony at home, though both are running at 1024*768 with >80 Hz. The main thing that amazed is the amout of deskspace this monitor takes. Despite the fact that it is full blown 17" it takes much less space than other 17" monitors. The monitor complies with the latest TCO'99 standard which makes sure that heat and radio emissions are kept to minimum which is very important to me because I spend a lot of time behind my computer. For most standard resolution of 1024x768 the refresh rate is 85Hz which has minimum effect on eyes and allows to spend long hours on computer. I've found that the past 15 or so Dell monitors I've come across have been Sony's. There have been exceptions but this seems to be the general rule. I'm not going to give an opinion on any single monitor but instead a general comment about all of them. I know it's easy to say that they are excellent monitors as they're Sony but even those that weren't Sony were superb. In general Dell seem to have gotten their act together in terms of what they're supplying. The quality/cost ratio is getting better all of the time.
