I got this charger with the camera and you should get it with any sony camera ... ...battery is as a replacement but i have not found a need for one. I recently took just one battery on a 10 day holiday to Italy and found that the battery lasted all holiday, taking in excess of 200 pictures, and it was not dry at the end of it.
As for the size of it, it is only 35mmx41mmx8 mm and weighes a megre 300g. This size not only means that the camera is that much more compact but also a spare is very easy to transport as is ... more

It came free with the Camera (Amazom £139) but it can be bought separately for around £20.
The battery charges up through a charger which plugs to a normal plug socket and takes around 4hrs depending on how charged the battery is. I got this charger with the camera and you should get it with any sony camera you get. The only reason therefore to buy this battery is as a replacement but i have not found a need for one. I recently took just one battery on a 10 day holiday to Italy and found that the battery lasted all holiday, taking in excess of 200 pictures, and it was not dry at the end of it.
As for the size of it, it is only 35mmx41mmx8 mm and weighes a megre 300g. I know that it gets concealed in the camera but for a battery it is pretty good looking and is a pleasure to use.
As with most batteries, their life decreases in low temperature bsurroundings, which is fine if you constantly use it in England or the Med but if you holiday in the arctic or equivalent then a spare battery would be pretty important. One other important thing is that if you don't use the battery that often, then you have to make sure that you fully charge it up and drain it once a year.
The only only battery pack i have experience is an olympus one in my dad's digital camera, which even though the camera is not as good, lasts for much less time and is more bulky. So based on that it really is a brilliant battery but i would recommend to wait until you've used the supplied one until you buy a spare, unless youre going on a really long holiday.
Advantages: support for when you are court short, long life, high price Disadvantages: not widely available and do you need an additional one?
Well what can I say about this battery really except that it is an extremely useful piece of kit for a camera; my old camera (a DSC 600) ran on the old style AA batteries and was continually running out after an afternoons not very intensive shooting, even when I bought AA rechargeables it did not improve much and cost me quiet a bit; my new camera however (that I was forced to buy after someone knocking into me sending my camera skimming across ... ...a huge improvement; chances are if your buying this you're going to need a charger and these are really easy to use with a simple light that goes off when charging is complete; this battery is extremely long lasting with on average 380 shots for every charge which is outstanding! however of course with the advantages of a specialised pack came the disadvantage of if you court short then there is no chance of you buying one in a small beach side store ...
