...assistant told me that the Sony brand still made the best portable audio devices and that the sounds quality was excellent, so I bought it!
It comes with a leatherette (yes, I know, it should be leather) case to protect your gorgeous case frmo scratches, the lead and earphones (in-ear,no foam), the remote, the charging base, the software and a small emergency battery attachment (incase your charge runs out).
Firstly, ... ...Good start. Then I had to figure out how to transfer the music from my hard drive to the device (also very easy) and lastly with a bit of fiddling, I had set the sound on the Walkman and charged it. That was pretty much that!
The sound quality is fantastic and the choice of sounds is amazing...the surround souns is the best though! The 'hold' buttons on both the remote and the main player are very handy and prevent accidental button ... more
Having not had any type of portable audio player since I was about 19, (don't laugh, I had a shoulder strap with my portable tape player!!!!) I decided to research MP3 and minidisc players as I am a total music buff (just never needed to 'take it round with me'!)
I asked around, spoke to sales advisors at Dixons, Currys, Comet and even looked on ebay to conclude that I was better off buying a minidisc player rather than an MP3 player.....that's because of the capacity. I wanted something small to listen to LOTS of music. Most MP3 players only hold around 5-8 CD albums (those with a reasonable price tag, we ALL know about the iPod!) and as I could theoretically hold 5 albums on ONE minidisc (and they are SO small, believe me) I opted for the Net MD MZ-N710.
My eye was not only drawn by the price (Dixons XL had a special offer on at the time of £165 plus speakers and a pack of minidiscs) but the design too......
It's one of very few that has a metal casing and yes it's got weight but I felt that made it more 'substantial'. The sales assistant told me that the Sony brand still made the best portable audio devices and that the sounds quality was excellent, so I bought it!

Firstly, the sofware was really easy to load onto the laptop. Good start.
The 'hold' buttons on both the remote and the main player are very handy and prevent accidental button pressing from movement, etc.
The biggest drawback is the silly little remote control device that clips onto you for easy access to the controls!! What a fiddly little thing. The clip isn't anywhere near long enough or 'grippy' enough, so if you're a commuter, don't bother using the remote, it falls off with every step you take! Also the buttons aren't easy to see on the remote, and I haven't got big fat fingers, but I find myself constantly pressing the wrong buttons.....
The speakers are brill and I use them with the Walkman when I'm in the garden (looking forward to taking it all on holiday) Yes, the Maths means I can take 25 albums on just 5 tiny little mini discs! No more being bored to tears with the 3 CDs you thought would be enough!
Advantages: great sound, great software, and long lasting battery life Disadvantages: cant transfer from device to PC
...i have seen on the market, and cant complain really as i have had it and not 1 problem.
Sony have outdone themselves this time. Well done.
Thats my opinion anyway.
Thanx for taking your time to read what i think about the lovely piece of equipment ...

Advantages: Editing of tracks, compact, sound quality, battery life, build quality, Sony's bundled software, transfer MP3 from PC, overall design Disadvantages: Remote control less than robust, can't transfer from player to PC
...A friend showed me a Sony MD player he owned a few years ago and I was suitably impressed but never considered buying one due to the cost.
You'd be forgiven for thinking that Mini Disc players are a niche product for the truly hardened music fanatic. There is certainly some truth in that. Most people are quite happy with a portable CD player but try connecting it to your car stereo, or using it on a bus. The MD players are much more discreet.
Not ... ...CDs for recording) gives the Sony MDs a distinct advantage over the CD format. The Net MD allows you to edit and mix the tracks pretty much at will. However, I have yet to use that facility and it's doubtful I ever will.
As mentioned earlier, the 710 is mostly metal and is reasuringly heavy for its size. The design of the device oozes quality but the attached remote control lets things down a little. It can take time to figure out how to use it ...

Advantages: Great sound quality Disadvantages: Battery life is a bit limited
Looks
This is an attactive MD. It has the screen at a jaunty 45 degree angle, which I find pleasing, and the buttons are all easy to use. It comes with a remote control, which is also useful, and has it's own screen, so you can still see the track titles etc when the main player is in a case.
Cost
I was given this MD as a present a year ago, but I believe they are currently about £60. I think this is great value for money, as you get a good range ... ...with software (PC and MAC compatible) to put downloads onto mini discs, which is especially helpful, and can also be used as a medium to play music on your computer. I find the software itself easy to use when I am recording and transfering things. You can use it to record from CDs as well as from downloads, and it is pretty quick. It makes naming tracks a lot less fiddly as you canjust type all the information in on the computer rather than using ...

...one of the best players sony have ever brought out.
the style of this player practicly invites you to use it and wont embarass you in front of other people. it is small and thin and will fit into your pocket with enough room to fit your mobile phone (if you wish). the screen itself shows you all the information you need to know and shows each function clearly so you wont get lost trying to work it out. The small controller that is provided with this player allows you to change the volume, skip track, change sound settings and change from group to group. the controller is small and sleek so that you can hide it away when not in use and the buttons are easy to use.

Advantages: Simple to transfer media from pC to Disc via USB Disadvantages: no backlight on remote nor main player
I bought this after Christmas with my Christmas money. I was looking to buy a more ergonomic and sleek audio device after previously having a very bulky CD walkman and previously a Cassette walkman. A friend of mine already owned a minidisc, but this was one of the ones where music could only be recorded onto minidisk from a hi-fi. I had heard about NET-MDs from TV ads and thought that it would be a good gadget to get with my other option being an ... ...MP3.
The unit was well packaged and included USB and optical connecting leads. The LCD remote control which was what attracted me to buying this MD instead of its predecessor model which has a remote that Is not LCD. The unit also included Sony's SonicStage software which allowed me to transfer music rapidly from my PC to MD via USB cable or optical lead. The very nice leather carry case could also double as a place to store the disks. A rechargeable ...

Advantages: High speed download, superb sound, ultra lightweight Disadvantages: Pricey
One dull Saturday afternoon, I wandered into a Sony Centre and spotted a pocketsize silver box on display. It had this appealing futuristic look, and was so light I hardly noticed that I was holding it. Five minutes later, I was £179 poorer!
The little thingy is Sony MZ-N505, codename Net MD Walkman, or Sony Portable MiniDiscRecorder. MiniDisc was invented by Sony and uses a new compression technology to store digital sound in less space (up to 5 hours playback time in one MiniDisc). It’s very similar to floppy disk; you may record, play or erase any music file, and edit the track names (like filenames). A blank MiniDisc costs around £1.50. The MZ-N505 can record audio files (MP3, WAV and WMA) from PC via a USB cable, or CD audio tracks from a CD player (or CD Rom drive). It comes with a very user-friendly software to handle ...

It was my birthday and to my great surprise and joy I was given a sony MZ-R900.This is a minidisc player. In case you don?t know what a minidisk is, it is a revolutionary invention by Sony.A minidisc is a 2.5" square cartridge with a digital optical disc inside. It is designed for recording music onto and can be recorded over 1 million times without a loss of sounds quality! Most minidiscs can hold 80 minutes of music on them in normal mode.
Anyway back to the minidisc player. The Sony MZ-R900 is available in silver or blue (mine is blue) and will fit in the palm of your hand!It is extremely light too!As soon as I received the minidisc player I ,naturally, wanted to try it out.To my horror an extremely thick manual fell from the box!Luckily the minidisc player was extremely simple to use and understand and soon I was enjoying my new gift ...
Advantages: Small, excellent battery life, flexible Disadvantages: Poor headphones, can't get it off my girlfriend
Well, I?ve owned my little mini-discrecorder for about 6 weeks and I still haven?t figured out why I brought the little beastie! I know that I?ve always wanted one and finally took the plunge a few weeks ago, but when I try and pin down WHY I wanted one or why I finally bought it, I?m a bit stumped. Maybe I?ll be able to tell you when I?ve finished writing this!
So, probably best to start at the beginning and tell you what ?Mini-disc? is.
Well, Minidisc is a fairly new format for storing and recording and storing music. It was invented by Sony and released onto the market back in 1993. If you?ve never seen a minidisc, they are like little CD?s, about 7cms in diameter and encased in a plastic cover to protect them from dust and the possibility of being scratched. The whole thing looks a bit like like a small 3 1/2? diskette ...
