NET MD This means that you can connect this MiniDisc recorder to a PC and download music onto it 64times faster than recording it with an optical connection. This makes it equal first with the fastest transfer MiniDisc recorders out there, so can not be beaten. This is a fantastic feature with most people these days having most of their music on computer. It is fast and reliable. However it does not mean you can transfer music from it onto PCs. This is not the MDs fault, it is just one of those things, there are not any NET MDs that I know of that you can transfer from.
3 Line LCD Display This means that you can view 3 lines of information on the main screen at once with the ability for the text to scroll. Combined with the Jog Dial on the side it makes it very easy to find the music you want on it. All you have to do then is press the Jog Dial in to select the central track. In other forms it allows you to have up on display the MD name, Group name, and track name all at once. It is a great feature on a fantastic MD Recorder/Player. Nothing bad to say about it.
Backlit Inline LCD Remote It can display anything about the MD Recorder/Player, and allows you to change your options without getting the main unit out. It is very simple to use, and being backlit means it can be used any day or more importantly on that train journey on your way home from a concert. Basically anything that can be shown on the main unit can be shown here, anything that can be changed on the main unit can be changed here. Very good quality, very simple to use, and a great feature that I use all the time. Only that it means your mates can change tracks while you are asleep and wake you up suddenly.
Group/Albums You can organise tracks into Groups/albums to make it easier to find the tracks you want. It can be done on the main unit, LCD remote and on PC. I find it very useful and allows me as I said to find tracks quickly. You can also choose to play only the tracks in that Group, or repeat that group. Very useful feature that I use all the time. Nothing bad to say about it.
Bookmarks This feature allows you to choose up to 20 favourite tracks. You can then choose to only play those tracks on the MD if you wish. It is simple to select, just hold down enter for 2 seconds whilst playing the track and it is Bookmarker. Combined with the Personal memory it is a good little feature to have.
Personal Memory This is a feature that I am have only really started using recently, it remembers things like your Bookmarks on the MD and the volume at which you like that MD played. I think it has a memory for up to 65 MDs. Good little additional feature. Nothing bad to say.
Battery Life FANTASTIC life, the best out there I feel. When you combine the rechargeable battery with the external AA battery, you can go many days of playing music a lot before you need to recharge. Of course you can just have the external battery pack with you in case you need it, that is what I normally do. I do use my MD every day when at school (I'm in Sixth Form so am allowed) and have no problems with the battery, it never lets me down. The snazzy charging cradle makes it very easy to recharge quickly with ease. FANTASTIC!
Ease of Use Very easy to use straight away if all you want to do is record using an optical lead and then play the tracks. Takes a little time to use and understand some of the other features, but if you are like me and can just pick up anything to do with technology quickly you will have no problems. Even if you aren't, I don't think you will have any problems.
I could just go on, but I have picked out the main features that I think make this one of the best MDs out there if you don't mind the price tag.
Advantages: Easy to download music onto it Disadvantages: The hold button is a bit iffy
This Net minidisk is the worlds fastest Net MD. It has 64x music transfer and can record 5 minutes of music in just 5 seconds. This is excellent for those people like me who do not have a lot of time but enjoy listening to great music. The software hat comes with this minidisk i have found very easy to use and allows even the most basic computer users to operate it.
The case is slim and compact and the case is of aluminium. I do not like however ... ...although this providees a rechargeable battery which can save a lot of money. It also has antishock which i have found very useful as some of my CD players need only a tap to stop the music from playing.
This NET MD can record music from a variety of different sources such as the PC, Optical cables and Microphones.. It comprises of a long play function, a six band graphic equalizer and virtual surround.
The remote control is fantastic. You can ...

Advantages: The nickle hyrdide battery and recharge cradle Disadvantages: The hold button is a bit fiddly.
This is my third minidisc recorder I have owned and it is by far the best. I have read on other reviews that the volume isn't high enough but I think it's fine, unless you want to make yourself deaf of course! There is a great 6 band graphics equaliser which you can adjust with ease to your favourite sound. The remote control is very user friendly but I seemed to have a problem with the connection so needed to send it back, the remote control that ... ...type of earphone with a small stereo jack into it, it just has an extra port by the side of the headphone socket for the additional info for the remote control needs.
I have a high quality microphone and have found that recordings made with it have been very good quality and the function itself is very very easy to use.
The model I bought has the same model number (MZ N910/S) as the one this review is written for but mine is mettalic blue, so the ...

Advantages: Connects to PC or a Hi-Fi Disadvantages: Software is a bit slow on Windows 98
...Another useful thing that Sony have thrown in is a charging cradle. If you ddo not have a Mini-Disk in your Hi-Fi and will be connecting you Mini-Disk to your audio system, then the unit will sit neatly in a little cradle which you can plaug into the mains, ensuring that your player will not topple over or run out of battery while recording or playback through your Hi-Fi system. (It also look a lot nicer!) In summing up, I have thrown good money ... ...about any of these players is that due to the fact they are made of some sort of aluminium, the unit is prone to scratches and scuffs. Sony have included a carrying case. I highly reccomend that this case is used, otherwise your unit will be come marked! ...

Advantages: Looks Good, Compact, Easy to use, light and generally stylish Disadvantages: not many, other than if it isnt looked after and kept in its pouch it could get scratched.
...purchase one, go for the Sony Net MD Walkman MZ-N910/s. It's as good as the rest but at a fraction of the price.. that's what lured me to it..and now i have one and its working a treat.
good luck with what you choose but if you choose this you won't regret it.
one thing i'd like to point out though, is that because it's silver and stylish you'd want to take it out of the pouch ( that comes with it) to show to your friends. If you do take it out ...

Advantages: Compact, Easy to Use Disadvantages: Limited checkouts with Sonicstage, poor case provided.
I have been delighted with this product since I bought it 3 months ago. It is so simple to get started, and install the software. The RRP is around £240 but it is availble on the web for aroung £170.
When the product arrived I unpacked it straight away. I didnt bother reading the manual, and I didnt need to everything was so straight forward. The first step was to plug the cradle into a USB port on my PC, place the MD unit in, and wait for it to ... ...charged the next morning.
The next step was to install the SonicStage software onto your PC. This was delightfully easy, and took about 2 minutes. Once the software is installed, there are 3 main areas, CD, Music Drive and Device. The device is the MD itself and the contents of any disk you have inside it. CD will show you the contents of a CD you have in your cdrom drive to allow you to transfer files onto your MD, and handily links into a database ...

Advantages: High speed download, superb sound, ultra lightweight Disadvantages: Pricey
One dull Saturday afternoon, I wandered into a Sony Centre and spotted a pocketsize silver box on display. It had this appealing futuristic look, and was so light I hardly noticed that I was holding it. Five minutes later, I was £179 poorer!
The little thingy is Sony MZ-N505, codename Net MD Walkman, or Sony Portable MiniDiscRecorder. MiniDisc was invented by Sony and uses a new compression technology to store digital sound in less space (up to 5 hours playback time in one MiniDisc). It’s very similar to floppy disk; you may record, play or erase any music file, and edit the track names (like filenames). A blank MiniDisc costs around £1.50. The MZ-N505 can record audio files (MP3, WAV and WMA) from PC via a USB cable, or CD audio tracks from a CD player (or CD Rom drive). It comes with a very user-friendly software to handle ...
Advantages: small-light-compact-great sound quality-MDLP-great batery life Disadvantages: pricey!
It was my birthday and to my great surprise and joy I was given a sony MZ-R900.This is a minidisc player. In case you don?t know what a minidisk is, it is a revolutionary invention by Sony.A minidisc is a 2.5" square cartridge with a digital optical disc inside. It is designed for recording music onto and can be recorded over 1 million times without a loss of sounds quality! Most minidiscs can hold 80 minutes of music on them in normal mode.
Anyway back to the minidisc player. The Sony MZ-R900 is available in silver or blue (mine is blue) and will fit in the palm of your hand!It is extremely light too!As soon as I received the minidisc player I ,naturally, wanted to try it out.To my horror an extremely thick manual fell from the box!Luckily the minidisc player was extremely simple to use and understand and soon I was enjoying my new gift ...
Advantages: Small, excellent battery life, flexible Disadvantages: Poor headphones, can't get it off my girlfriend
Well, I?ve owned my little mini-discrecorder for about 6 weeks and I still haven?t figured out why I brought the little beastie! I know that I?ve always wanted one and finally took the plunge a few weeks ago, but when I try and pin down WHY I wanted one or why I finally bought it, I?m a bit stumped. Maybe I?ll be able to tell you when I?ve finished writing this!
So, probably best to start at the beginning and tell you what ?Mini-disc? is.
Well, Minidisc is a fairly new format for storing and recording and storing music. It was invented by Sony and released onto the market back in 1993. If you?ve never seen a minidisc, they are like little CD?s, about 7cms in diameter and encased in a plastic cover to protect them from dust and the possibility of being scratched. The whole thing looks a bit like like a small 3 1/2? diskette ...
