I originally got this after my ipod got stolen. I decided that ipod's were extrememly attractive to theives so I'd get a different brand. I chose Sony as they are a company that I like to use and I have always been impressed with their products.
The cost of this mp3 player has gone down in time, however it is still cheaper than the 20GB ipod. There are other brands on the market now such as the creative zen and apple so the price has gone down.
The design is very sleek. It is smaller tham a packet of 20 cigarettes, as a woman who loves tiny bags, this is the perfect size. It can fit in your pocket or even the smallest handbag. I love the colour as I bought the pink one, you can however get a choice of other colours.
What impressed me the most about this mp3 player is the ease of uploading my CD's. Once I had installed the software on my PC it was pretty straight forward to transfer them accross to the mp3 player itself. Also the buttons to navigate different ways of playing songs, e.g. by band, genre are much simpler than with the ipod 'wheel'. I found it much simpler to use. I like the fact that the screen lights up in pink when you press any buttons as it is easy to find in my bag and also you can change songs in the dark!
You can search for things to listen to through artist, genre or even the order you loaded the albums on to the mp3. You can also repeat songs or albums without having to keep setting it up to go back to the beginning.
The only thing I was slightly disappointed about it the maximum volume is not actually that loud. My hearing isn't especially good as I have spent many years going to loud gigs and standing next to the speaker. The volume is acceptable to most people, however I would prefer it if it was possible to turn the volume up higher. (Perhaps to 11?)
What I was super duper impressed with, that Sony get 5 gold stars from me for ,is how long the battery life lasts for. I felt I was charging my ipod every other day where as I only charge this up once or twice a week. You get about double the battery life which is good if you have a long commute ahead of you and can't charge it. Also it gives you a pre-warning by beeping and switching your music off to let you know that the battery has nearly died. I have worked out that you can play it again after it does this, but not for long. It's nice to have the warning, at least that way if your charger is not to hand you can always buy a magazine for your journey!
I would recommend this to anyone who doesn't want to be a sheep and get an ipod due to the brand name. This represents good value for money as it is small and light and also the battery is much longer than other mp3 players in a similar price range. It is expensive but I think it is worth it if you are the kind of person who can't go through the day without music. I am very pleased with it and after 2 and a half years of heavy use it is still going very strong!

Advantages: Great design, hi-quality sound (Better than iPod), easy to use, smaller than iPod, better software than iTunes. AMAZING battery life. Disadvantages: Menus on Walkman if you have a lot of albums to get through - are a little bit time consuming to navigate.
