What is it?
The PSP 3000 is the latest and highest spec Playstation Prtable (PSP) that you can currently buy. A few years ago I owned one of the older models but sold it as I wasn't really playing it enough. If I am being honest I really wanted a PS3 but I couldn't warrant paying £300 for a console I would only use occasionally so I bought this portable console for £150.
The PSP is a portable games console giving you the freedom to play your favourite games on the move. The PSP has been around for quite a few years now. The original model was revised to produce the 'Slim and Lite' version. This console is basically the all singing, all dancing version of this later model.
What's so special about it?
The first thing that stood out to me was how much lighter and thinner this PSP seemed compared to my old one. The dimension of this console are H71 W170 D19 and it feels just right, not too light that it feels flimsy and not too heavy that it becomes uncomfortable when playing games for a long time. With a weight of only 189g it is amazing how much power and performance can be packed in to this small square box!

It has been difficult to test it to its full extent due to the lack of sunshine we have at this time of year!
The PSP has a wireless feature so you can access the internet. Once I had set up the connection I found the loading of web pages painfully slow, it was like going back in time to the first days of dial up connection! I purchased this to play games, not surf the internet so I wasn't too bothered about this. The built in microphone and preloaded Skype means you can make phone calls and I have used this with success, even though it did seem a bit strange not holding a phone to my face! With the wireless function you can access Sony's online store and download game demos and various other features, some of which you need to pay for though. I started to download a free game demo but twenty minutes later it was still downloading so I gave up!
Loading and Saving etc
Games are loaded at the back of the console by flipping open a very flimsy flap where you slot the disc in. I am still nervous now of breaking this as it does seem very light and delicate! Once inserted the games are quick to load and you can select on your home page whether or not to start games automatically when inserted. The buttons seem sturdy which is reassuring if you are a bit heavy handed with games like myself! With its lack of built in memory it is worth pointing out at this point that you will need to buy a memory card to save your games. These range in price from £10 up to £40 depending on the capacity. In this day and age this still annoys me as I don't understand why they cannot build in the memory rather than you having to buy extras before you can even play a game. You can also watch films on the PSP by purchasing them in the UMD format. I have not bought any films for this yet as I would rather watch a movie on my full screen television!
After buying the memory card my second purchase was a protective case. This is a must for carrying the PSP around when not in use to save it from damage, I imaging that it is prone to scratches if not looked after properly. I bought a case with a few other extras for £15 from Argos and it was definitely worth it! Another extra you can buy is a camera to turn the PSP into a video and still camera. I have no intention of buying this as I already have a separate digital camera and also a camera on my mobile phone so I don't really need another one! Again I don't understand why they built in a microphone but no camera, surely it wouldn't have cost much more to put one in?
Battery life is pretty impressive. I am not sure what the makers claim but I have played this in an hour long stint and the battery was still going. If you run it down too low though it can take a couple of hours to charge up fully again. It amazes me that a console as powerful as this with such a big and bright display can hold it's charge for so long, I wish my mobile phone could do the same!
There are plenty of games on the market for the PSP. This is helped by the fact that the PSP has been around for a few years now and many of the games are the same ones that are available for Sony's standard home consoles. I really am spoilt for choice when choosing a new game and so far I haven't played a bad one, mind you I do read a lot of reviews before I decide on which game to buy!
Summary
Overall if you are looking for a portable console I highly recommend this. It's main competitor is Nintendo's DS Lite but the games are limited on the DS for the adult age group in my opinion. The PSP has a much better variety of games and is certainly more aimed at the hardcore gamer! There are games for every age and taste and you really are spoilt for choice. I am really pleased with my purchase and have become a bit of a PSP addict! The only complaint that I have is that my thumbs do ache a bit after playing for a while, I think this is referred to as Playstation thumb?!!
There seems to be a real divide between the fans of the PSP and the DS and gamers seem to be very loyal to their chosen consoles. My preference is the PSP all the way however I have played some good games on the DS so in an ideal world I would have to say that money no object I would probably own both!
Advantages: Sharp screen, storage device for music and photos, internet Disadvantages: None
I bought this product after having a quick play on my boyfriends PSP2000. This new model is fantastic, its slim, light and user friendly.
This is also due to the recently updated look of playstation. Simple to understand, even for a novice to computer consoles. It is new so there are not as many accessories out there, compared to the Slim and Lite, but knowing Sony, these will be coming out on the market soon. With loads of different types of games ... ...The screen is great - a very sharp and clear picture, which is great to watch movies on. With wireless connect, it is great to access the internet if there is no nearby computer to check your emails. Store your music, so it can be used as an music player. Upload photos onto it - a mobile album. Skype, to make free calls. What more could you want - everything in one package.
Fantastic ...

...any earphones will do. # Sony claims (on the official site) that the screen is more glare-resistant. To be honest, I didn't see the difference though. # Shapes of some buttons and placement of logo has slightly changed, but its not like this affects the device in any way. Also, the claims (I've seen on some sites) say that the display is bad in that is causes "interlacing artifacts" is in my opinion blown out of proportion. Yes, there is a tiny amount ... ...In fact, I hardly notice it. However, the only real drawback is that it doesn't really offer much to owners of the Slim&Lite. Im writing this review in two sections the first part will be on the condition of having an original psp or no psp and the second will be on the condition of having the psp light.

Do you want something to take your mind off after work. This is the best PSP they have come out with. I actually own 2 of them, one for when i go to work and the other for home. You can store music and also download straight from the internet to your PSP, also comes with a built in wifi scanner, which is very useful when you are out and about in public areas, such as parks and malls. Need to find something out, just search for wifi connection and ...

The PSP is a fairly good bit of portable hardware, with alot of capabilities for a product at such a small size. The PSP 3000 is the lightest PSP yet. There is a fairly good games library for the PSP but the 2009 holiday season is to see a greater push in software for the PSP with well known and established brands coming out within the months before Christmas. However, this holiday season will also see a new model of the PSP being released so if ... ...until its release this october. That is if you are willing to pay the high price point of £249.99 compared to the PSP 3000's £129.99. Both models play the exact same games so you will not lose out on all the new games if you decide to stick with the older model. The PSP's rival, the Nintendo DSi, which is on sale for the same price, has a better games library in my opinion with more more well known established brands on offer. The DSi also features ...

Advantages: Sleak, light, added mic, skype reinstalled, easy to use, great screen display. Disadvantages: Surfing the web can be cluncky, no touchscreen, no bundled memory stick!
The latest Playstation Portable device from Sony named PSP3000, is an update to Sony's long standing PSP gamilng console. This newer version inherits all the features of the older models including support for Memory Stick, 1 x UMD disk slot and mini USB jack. however the new baby is now even lighter, has an enhanced screen display and comes with an inbuilt microphone. Skype is preinstalled on the device and after connecting to a WiFI signal, you can use the PSP to make calls. if that wasn't enough, BT softphone is also available to install but really Skype does the job!
The screen is great but truefully i can't notice the resolution difference between the older models, UMD movies look brilliant and the screen dimensions make surfing the web and the Sony Playstation store really clear.

I love my PSP, but I'm still playing games I bought 2 or 3 years ago for my original PSP-1000. For a new user, especially, the lack of new games is enough to make anyone worry about investing in one.
The 4.3-inch LCD wide screen remains, and it's been tweaked. Sony says the new screen now delivers better color reproduction, reduced glare, and reduced "ghosting" on high-motion scenes. When compared with the 2000, the PSP3000 does, indeed, deliver better color vibrancy (you can toggle between "wide" and "standard" color in the options to see the difference). As for glare reduction: we didn't find there to be a huge difference. Don't expect to play in direct sunlight, for instance. But you might have better luck with fewer distractions from indoor light sources. ...
Advantages: Smaller size, better graphics, upgrade of the psp3000 Disadvantages: Very fragile due to its design
The original psp was an instant hit as it sold out much quicker than expected and this led to the psp2000 version and then the psp3000 version with improved features. The sonypsp go is more than just an upgrade of the psp3000. It is the perfect handheld console as all of the faults on the psp3000 have been fixed. The best thing about the psp go is that you can now see what is on the screen in a brightly lit room or in some sunlight. On previous versions it has been impossible to make out the images on the screen in a well lit room. Also, the actual image is much clearer and seems more detailed. As well as integrated wi-fi, it has integrated bluetooth. It has an ingenious slider design which makes it more comfortable to hold. However, this also makes it more fragile and it is more likely to break if dropped. It does not have a UMD ...
