My next review is about the thing that I always play when I was a student and when I don't have anything to do. The new PlayStation 2 Slim edition is full of great new features and the design is very petite and durable.
PlayStation 2 Slim edition had been in the UK market during the 2004 Boxing Day and the price range of this product is about £100 to £160. The reason why the price is not the same was most of the shops sell this product with other product package such as the PS2 Console + 2 Games + Extra Control Pad in one package and those price varies with the item in that package.
But what I want you to know is that, most of the package can save only some amount of money, and I would reckon you to buy other accessories at other places such as eBay or others.
By the time I bought this great product, I was impressed with the design of the packaging that is very bright and small (indeed). This yellow box is absolutely a 'magnet' to everyone that worship the console gaming. By looking at the box, I already can know what are the new features installed in this console.
As what had been stated at the box, "PlayStation 2: YOUR COMPLETE ENTERTAINTMENT EXPERIENCE. This sentence is already explaining the full features that exist in this product.

When I bought this console, it
comes with 2 DVD games, and extra Control Pad and also a DVD rack. But in the box, it contains
• One unit of console o It comes in Black (Charcoal Black) in colour o Other colour that available in the market are white o The console is very thin and small and I think it was the main attraction to the buyer. It save spaces, and look good too. I love it o And it is not really heavy and you can easily put it in your bag pack if you want to play your console at your friend's house etc. o The new features that exist in this console are the build in IR receiver for remote control, integrated network connector, and also DVD-RW/+RW playback for DVD movies or CD player. I already try to see my favourite DVDs using this console and the viewing quality is still the same with other standard DVD player. Same goes to CD music as well.
• Analog Controller (Control Pad) o The Control pads that come with the console are still the same with the previous version of PlayStation 2. I don't have any problem or difficulties when using the control pad and make sure your hand is clean when playing with this kind of control pad so that the lifetime of this controller will last longer and you don't have to be worried of keep cleaning your Analog Joypad (because when its get dirty, it will be very uncomfortable using it)
• Euro AV Connector Plug o It's a must if your television is in European Format. It connects your console to your television using the AV Cable.
• AV Cable (Integrated Audio and Video) o Needed to transfer all the data to your television. Especially the Visual and Audio data.• AC Adaptor o Different country using different types of AC Adaptor. But in UK, usually the console is supplied with a 3 Pin AC Adaptor
• AC Power Cord o The Cord that connects to the AC Adaptor to the console
• Manuals o The manual is very easy to understand and after reading the manual, I had no difficulties on operating this console. o There is also a 'Claim Your Free Starter Pack' form that will enable you to get any update, information about the latest games, demos, and you can get a free prize draw entry. o Other than that you need to register your console through mail or through their website for receiving any updates regarding any changes in hardware, warranty, and other problem related to this console.
+++++++++ Advantages +++++++++
• Design o I love the design very much and because of the size that is thin and small, I can put it anywhere, even the place that I never imagine before. The Casing of the console is stronger compared to the previous version of PS2 and the tray for inserting the DVDs is replaced by the flip door disc cover. o I also love to see the console to stand vertically and you can get the console stand at any game shop. But I bought it from eBay for only £7.00.
• The New Features o It's really a good invention to make the IR receiver build in the console, you can just buy the remote control in any game shop. o The integrated network connector is and advantage especially for the person who like to play adventure games such as Battlefield 2, Killzone and Socom 2. I haven't tried it yet but my friend didn't have enough rest and sleep because of this… so you know what I mean, ha-ha. You will need to have a broadband connection in order to play online game (of course).
• Service By the Manufacture o After 8 month registering this console to the Sony, I had received an email asking me to check my AC Adaptor. After checking it, Sony had suggested me not to use my current AC Adaptor due to some problem of over heating of the adaptor (that I already suspected). Next week I received the new adaptor and I had returned the old adaptor to them for free. They also provide the new adaptor for free as well. I am really impressed with their good service (no wonder Sony is well known as a great electronic manufacture)
++++++++++ Disadvantage ++++++++++
• Console Region Type o This console is using the PAL format and this is different from the NTSC format and you only can use PAL DVD games and Movies for this console. o The solution is you can do some adjustment (cheat) with some of the IC Chip inside the console or using a special CD to enable the console to play the DVD/CD from different format. But remember, adjusting the IC Chip inside the console can void the warranty or maybe can damage your console itself. CAREFULL

As the conclusion, I really enjoy using the product, the service from the manufacture was excellent and the design of the console is superb. Till now, I haven't heard any complain about PlayStation 2 Slim Edition regarding the quality and most games are design especially for this console and the results are excellent (graphic wise). It will be more exciting when you are using a big 42 inch plasma screen! :-P

How helpful would this review be to a person making a buying decision? Rating guidelines
(+) Plenty of storage space, for media. Good Games, Great for partys, with singstar. Very Reliable. (-) Sometimes the optical drive, breaks; but not very likely, my 60gb still working after 2 1/2 years.
Advantages: Faster processing speed, Much Smaller. Disadvantages: Mine doesn't play duel-layer DVD, remanufactured models broke down 4 times. My 5th is okay.
