Right let's get this straight! Sony's PlayStation 2 will hit Europe (including us in the the UK) on 26th October 2000. Odds on some shops opening at midnight just to be smart!
The PlayStation 2 is a strange beast. It boasts 128 bit technology which is equal to 8 times that of the original PlayStation! 8! Therefore you can expect some amazing things from it, yes? Well - at the moment...not really! You see in order for the technical marvel to hit us hard in the face (like a wet flannel wrapped around a concrete baseball bat) the first batch of games will really be just a set of upgraded PlayStation 1 games. Expect to see Wipeout Fusion, Tekken Tag Tournament, Ridge Racer 5 among others. This is where you say "Hold on - I LOVE those games!" and is the reason why Sony are letting them be launch titles. What better introduction to a new machine than an old friend (game) done up like a dogs dinner (with nicer graphics)? It's clever, but at the same time a little disappointing...
PlayStation 2 plays DVD's and it's said to be a pretty decent player! So for your money you'll be getting a machine that plays PlayStation 2 games, DVD video's and audio CD's! But wait! There's more! See, PlayStation 2 can play PlayStation 1 games and even has the ability to monkey around with them. Example? Well how about extra smooth texture mapping? Faster loading times? The chance to plug your legs into a Fifa game and actually KICK the ball? All except the last one are possible at launch! We'll have to wait for the Fifa thing...
Sony has plans for a broadband network so loads of people can go online and thrash each other in assorted shooty games etc. But you'll also be able to download music, game and films direct to the PlayStation 2's hard drive! The hard drive was announced last week however details are still in the air (Sony executives are said to be running round with butterfly nets trying to get 'em) although early estimates put it at 10 Gigabytes! About twice the size of MY computer!
PlayStation was a slow burner to begin (literally, as the early batch tended to overheat after a while!) but expect PlayStation 2 to instantly dominate the market (setting up it's own stall near the toy bit, selling pork pies and calling old women "dahlin'") what with it's ginormous catologue of PlayStation 1 software, DVD capabilty's and some 270+ games in development for it as we speak not to mention it's online ability's. PlayStation 2 WILL be grrrrrrrreat!
Oh yeah - the criteria details below are from what is expected of the machine! I've only played Tekken Tag, Ridge Racer 5 and a demo of Gran Turismo 2000 so...

You need to include more detail

Is it not rather naughty to write about something you ahve no experience of?

This opinion is not within the ciao guidelines as you clearly neither use nor own the product.
