Hi all,

Please bare in mind this is my 1st ever review so be gentle ;)

Firstly I have been a games console user all my life, well most of it. I have owned the Xbox & Xbox 360, Nintendo wii & the might Playstation 3.
I would like to let you know what great value for money this console is.

The Console
Most people I know bear in mind I work in IT support, know all about personal computers, consoles and handheld games devices. The first thing they say is that a PS3 is a multimedia machine as well as a games console. It can store:
  • Pics
  • Videos
  • Music
    & much more

Not to mention that the graphics capability on this machine is immense! I personally I have just splashed out on a HD TV mainly for the benefits for playing games or watching movies on my playstation.
If you have ever followed the Elder Scrolls series you will be aware of the game Oblivion. If you dont know of this game it was the "Game of the year 2008". The scenery on that game is hard to explain in words you will have to see it yourself, the detail is amazing for example with the weather changing you can even follow the shadows of the sun set going across the landscape which I must point out is available to view because of the awesome power the PS3 has, this enables game producers to include every detail they want. Also in Grand Theft Auto you can view the entire city from above or in the games cinematic view or even better when your get a ride in a taxi you can just look out of the window and see all the streets (which is based on NYC) you are driving through.

Now you may say thats just the game that provides this excellent scenery, but the way in which this scenery is delivered is purely down to the PS3. An example of this would be the smooth contrast from dark to light whether you’re playing GTA or Oblivion or any other game for that matter. Obviously this does also depend on the game producers, if they dont provide quality graphics on the game then unfortunately its not as easy to just say if its on the PS3 then the visuals will be perfect, the producers have to create these graphics for the PS3 to use.
A good way to compare would be to view the same game on an xbox360 for example and compare with the PS3 version. Most opportunities for this would be in games stores who regularly display games in demo mode generally on all platforms. Sony have their own version of HD which they call BluRay. All PS3 games are in BluRay which enables high quality graphics on each game & BluRay DVD (Providing you have a HD TV that can display these graphics even though the difference can be seen on a normal TV).

The Controller
The PS3 SIXASIS is a great controller just like the classic PS1/PS2 the design stayed the same. It also has a great feature called SIXAXIS which was not in previous versions of the Playstation controllers. This works similar to the Nintendo Wii controllers where it is motion sensitive. This currently is not available in all games yet but I do know that it is harder playing like that but with practice it will be just as easy and more enjoyable, for example GTA4 you can control any vehicle this way (select via options when paused) it is especially useful for flying helicopters. The PS3 can support up to 7 Bluetooth controllers that's more than enough for me.

Online play & service
Upgrades are available by the web, for instance when playing a new game lets say Grand theft auto or even better Pro Evolution soccer. When a new upgrade comes out it is sent through to your PS3 which then adds the feature to your game.
e.g.
New football transfers for Pro Evo 2009 - Michael Owen to Man Utd, Tevez to Man City etc.... It changes it on the game for you.
Also for example Call of Duty had a lot of problems with online play. Basically people were cheating by "glitching". They patched this via an upgrade from the
internet, job done everyones happy except the cheaters.

You can add friends so you know who is online when you are and even invite people to games, Call of Duty is the best example of this. You can invite your friends who will then be on your team when playing with other online gamers, it gives you the "them" and "us" attitude which can make the experience all the more realistic.

All game achievments are stored in a "Trophy" section where you can compare them with all your friends.

Playstation home
Now this is something no other console has to offer. I have limited experience with this as for me personally it’s not my thing but I am sure this service will put a smile on a few peoples faces.
Its basically an online world where you create your own virtual character and explore the PS3 world, you literally see other PS3 users walking around this world and you can talk to them via text, do a little dance, move furniture in your house and lots more.
This is being constantly updated to give users a more “real" experience.
Playstation Store
This is a brilliant idea. You can literally buy your games online and download directly to your PS3. This also has additional add ons for games available to purchase, again this does depend on the game producers but this feature on the PS3 makes it so much easier to get the game or upgrade you are after.
My personal favourite is the classic game section, for example I bought Worms for £7.99 the other day of which I was very impressed. Also games like Mortal Combat, Track and Field and even Crash Bandicoot are on there.
Again this gets updated almost every week with new features and games for your pleasure. Overview
  • Best delivery of graphics on the market
  • Wide range of products online
  • Unlimited upgrades on games & firmware

My Overall Opinion
As you can see the possibilities are endless and this is by far the leading console on the market today.
I would always pick the PS3 over any console though I will be honest the game range of the Xbox does exceed the PS3, however I cant see this being for much longer.
I would recommend this product to anyone for all ages.

Where's your opinion

Does not really tell me much about the machine this console has so many more feature to which you have failed to mention. You say the graphics are immense but give no examples of how they better from the Wii or 360. Sorry for the low rating but this console can not be reviewed in a few lines if you update the review i will re-rate sorry SH
