Sony PlayStation 3 (PS3)

The Sony PS3 has become a well selling console since its release, allowing it to become a competitor of the Xbox 360. Which console is better? That depends on a lot of factors. I have spent a lot of time on both consoles and I will admit I do prefer the Xbox 360. I will however, not let this effect the quality of this review itself.
The PS3 possess quite a few qualities that Xbox does not. PS3 for starters has better quality graphics than xbox does. There is no doubt about this. This may have to do with the fact that PS3 games are on blu-ray discs but I'm not entirely sure. This brings me to my next point, blu-ray. Yes, PS3 also has the ability to play Blu-Ray DVDs unlike Xbox. The biggest argument between consoles is about the online gameplay. PlayStation offers PSN (PlayStation Network) for free unlike XBL (Xbox Live) which costs $60 a year. You are also able to have internet access through this console allowing web browsing, file sharing, etc. The fan in this system is also relatively quiet compared to the roaring monster in my old 360. Want a comparison to another console? Sure, how about comparing PlayStation Move in comparison to the Nintendo Wii? Transition from systems seems to go seemingly smooth with the idea of control to sensor based movement. Although the PSM controller has more buttons I have noticed that it hasn't changed my play experience much.

On the other hand there are somethings that PS3 could work on. When receiving this console the first thing I noticed was the massive size. While setting this up I had to change my gaming set up a bit to have space for it. Within the first week of my time on PSN I noticed the limited amount of content in the PlayStation Store compared to the Xbox 360 market place. This could be due to PS receiving DLC (Downloadable Content) after the 360 (this isn't too big of a deal really.) After a while there was also a problem with my laser and it wouldn't read some PS3 games, but this was quickly fixed under warrenty. Speaking of reading games ... Did you know PS3 can play some PS/PS2 games? Yes this is true, however it can only read SOME discs.

Is this console right for you? Possibly. I have no regret in playing on this system and I know many others that don't. If the things I saw as positives about this console is what you look for, then don't hesitate to buy it. PlayStation has a lot to offer that other consoles don't and I do believe it will continue to progress and surpass the xbox in the number of online players.
