Advantages: Multiple recording formats
Disadvantages: Sound but I'm being VERY picky

.... As a standalone player this machine is excellent and as good as most £200 players I have seen. Sound could be more powerful but I'm really getting pedantic, unless you have a very expensive AV set-up you would never tell. Its a doddle to set-up, just make a few selections and sit back and enjoy the ride - it does it all for you and in some cases will even check the settings on your TV and replicate them. I'd give this machine 11 out of 10 anytime. Well done Sony, especially as you can buy it on line for around £240 now. (Digital Direct).... Read review

...Those who have read my reviews on other electrical goods may recognise that I have a lot of bias towards Sony products and my latest acquisition is the Sony GX300 DVD recorder. OK it is not a top of the range model with hard-drive recording, but at a price of £300 less 10 pence from Comet it is has proved a very reliable machine since we bought it last Xmas (2004). The installation of the machine was every bit as easy as the Sony video recorders, which I also own - in fact it took me more time setting up an aerial feed from my aerial booster box (a must-have if you wish to connect more appliance - the subject of another review I think) than it did tuning it all in. I plugged in the aerial lead to the aerial-in socket on the DVD. In the aerial-out socket, you can plug in the lead supplied and from there into the aerial-in socket... Read review

...So you lot may think that sony are the best brand on the market ? Well as tests show this maybe not the case. Sony Trinatron W/S TV's have been proven to give out a 23% radiation charge which if taken in, in quantity may be very harmfull. As much as you lot admire Sony, I think it is rubbish. The quality is about as good as the new improved concoard and well...Don'y buy Sony equipment! The effects of this devastating defect is damaging to all sonys customers.
