Sony RDR-HX 910

Advantages: Sleek, stylish, feature rich

...Sony RDR-HX510 After much research I had narrowed down the selection to 2 products - 1 from Panasonic and this 1 from Sony. Both were similarly priced when I bought the Sony RDR-HX510 at £320. There was not much in it when quality was compared, but the clincher was compatibility - I have mostly Sony everything so I reasoned that it was more likely to work well with own brand then competitor brands. What's in the Box? ----------------------- Recorder unit, basic audio/visual cables, manual, power cable and remote control (with batteries). What's not in the Box? ---------------------------- No sample recordable disc (very poor Sony !!!) Advantages: Multi-format recording

...I finally made the decision to get a digital recording device. There are a few options around, so I had to decide what I wanted. The main thing was that I didn't want to get caught out by the + vs - battle (like with VHS and Betamax). The Sony offers the ability to record and read pretty much every format available at the moment. It will allow recording to DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW/DL. It wont record DVD-RAM, but that was of limited concern to me. It also has an 80GB hard disk drive for recording without having to actually use a DVD disc. At DVD quality, this equates to approximately 17 hours of recording, though this can be signicantly increased by reducing the recording quality. ...I was looking around for a DVD/HDD Recorder for some time, and came across the Sony RDR-HX510, which seemed to have all the features I needed and good write ups. On receiving it, it was easy to setup and I connected my freeview box without problems. The initial setup wizard is straightforward and easy to follow. The Sony RDR-HX510 is very easy to use, navigating to saved programmes and around the menu is extremely straightforward. There are many different quality settings that you can record programmes on. I have found that there is virtually no difference in quality between the top 4 settings, meaning that you can get 44 hours of high quality recording on the 80GB HDD.
