This eBook reader from Sony is a highly stylish, high quality way to carry hundreds if not ... more
thousands of electronic books with you. The best part of this eBook reader, apart from the range of features Sony has packed in, is the cutting edge, easy to read E Ink® screen. The 6 inch E Ink® screen uses completely different technology to a normal mobile phone or computer screen. These other devices have a screen that is constantly'on', and always draining battery, where the E Ink® screen only uses battery when it changes its image. This gives this eBook reader a huge battery life of around 6800 page turns, or hundreds of books! The large display on this reader lets you read a large amount of text between page changes. The quality of the E Ink® display is also one of its main selling points. For a long time, people have preferred to read text printed on paper because it's easier on the eyes. E Ink® very closely replicates this experience unlike LCD technology used on phones or computer screens. You can view the text from any angle, and also unlike an LCD screen, its best viewed under natural light. You can read this eBook in the light of a coffee shop, or even in full sunlight, because the E Ink® behaves similarly to real ink. The lack of a backlight again reduces eye-strain.One great bonus of using an E Ink® screen as opposed to a printed page is you can reduce or enlarge the text to suit your reading style. This screen can also be turned horizontal or vertical at the touch of a button to suit the document you are reading. The eBook reader will read eBooks from a range of formats, including some DRM formats. Additionally it will read a range of computer formats such as DOC and PDF files. It will even display black and white pictures. The eBook reader is supplied with a CD-ROM containing 100 classic books in eBook format. The player even has a built in MP3 player so you can listen to music while you read without fumbling around with other devices.

I love reading, I normally go through about 5 books a month, so when I saw this advertised I thought to myself, I need one of these.
The screen is very nice on the eyes. Moving around the gadget is easy too, you can bookmark your page, jump pages and general feel to the Sony Ereader is nice.

3. Fragile. MY partner was walking from one room to another carrying the ebook. She dropped it and I had to buy another because it didnt work after that. My new gadget lasted me about 5 weeks and now I need to replace it because its broken. Not sure about taking it back to Play.com and getting a replacement.
I hope you enjoyed the review and this gadget is good. But in my opinion its Fragile, Rubbish software but a good piece of Gadget making.
Advantages: Lightweight, easy to use, excellent battery life Disadvantages: You will be interrupted from reading to answer a lot of questions!
can also set it down on a table to read without having to prop the pages open, and is considerably easier than wrestling with a weighty, thicker book.
I will agree that for all the bookmarking capabilities in the world some books, namely textbooks, are much better accessed in print where you can flip backwards and forwards as you like. However, for fiction the Reader is absolutely perfect, and this is coming from a tough critic as I like books, a lot.
So how easy is it to get a book once you have the Reader? Well, mine came with a CD of 100 classics for starters, although these and many other out-of-copyright books can be downloaded easily for free at Project Gutenberg and other websites. You can also use Sony's own store, or Waterstones, or, like me, you can cheat and get books for free. Yep, I have easily already obtained enough books ...
Advantages: Looks good, small, lightweight, good capacity, easy to use. Disadvantages: Time it takes to charge from a computer.
I have just returned from a cruise holiday to the Venice. Normally I would take 5 books with me as I tend to read one every 3 or 4 days. It's either that or rely on the on-board library.
This time, however, I had with me my SonyPRS-505 which I had loaded with James Patterson, Ian Rankine and Patricia Cornwell books (64 in all).
One of the main problems during the cruise was having to stop reading on a fairly regular basis to answer questions about the reader. Even the waiters serving drinks would stop and have a chat about it.
It was a complete success from every aspect and helped my wife and I to make new friends (although I doubt if Sony will include that in their marketing.
I had always been a bit concerned about the size of the writing. But there are three settings for font size. I was concerned that by selecting the large ...
**** Sony E Reader ****
I really enjoy reading but somehow my suitcase always ends up really heavy so when i saw that my local Waterstones had some in stock i decided to purchase one.At 199 quid its not cheap but i felt i could easily spend that on buying the books alone.
**What is it?**
Basically it is an electronic device that you can store books on.The memory size you get with it holds up to 160 books but there is also slots for you to add extra memory if needed, not that you would need it.
**Pros**
One of the best things about this is that you do not have to carry loads of books around with you.
Books are cheaper on the ereader than they are to buy normally and when you buy the ereader from Waterstones it comes with 100 classic books so if you are like me and would read these anyway the ereader pays for itself.

The Reader (model PRS-505) features a svelte body design. Re-styled controls more closely mimic paper page turns and allow for quick, intuitive navigation.A next-generation electronic paper display delivers faster response and a higher contrast ratio for easy reading even in bright sunshine. Eight levels of gray scale provide for crisp and clear text, images, and graphics. This device is designed for people on the go, this device is compelling because it allows them to carry a wide variety of reading materials whether they are on a cross-country flight, in a doctor's office waiting room, or at a beach resort. The Reader can handle a stack of books and other documents that people would rather not carry, yet offers a 'book-like' reading experience unavailable with other electronic devices. With the capacity to store up to 160 typical eBooks, the Reader can act as a mobile library. Expansion slots for Memory Stick Duo media or SD memory cards make the device's library potential practically limitless.More advanced users will appreciate the USB-based mass storage capability that allows them to use the device as a portable drive for the direct transfer of documents, images and other files to the Reader. A new auto sync feature also lets users set up folders with books and documents that can be automatically synchronized when the device is connected to a PC.
