Manufacturer's product description
The 500GB native capacity of Sony SAIT-1 drives exceeds that of any other tape drive currently on the market, making them an ideal choice for both server and network backup. With the ability to store up to 1.3 TB of compressed data on a half-inch tape cartridge, SAIT-1 drives are the first standalone drives to break the 1TB capacity barrier. Sustained data transfer rates for the drives reaches up to 78 MB per second (30 MB/sec native) for efficient data recording and fast data recovery. The external SAIT-1 drives easily fit into 19-inch racks when used with rack mount kits that are available separately.
Advantages: small, lots of storage and really reliable Disadvantages: less portable than a small form hard disk drive, needs main to use
...This is my second hard drive. The first one I bought was a sony vaio that I bought off of ebay - a portable 120GB hard disk drive from the far east. It started giving me disk read and write errors about three to four months after I bought it. Moral of the story, buy from a reputable manufacturer and seller.
So I bought this from Amazon co uk, who are by far a superior online seller. Prices have come down and i managed to get this for £60 including free delivery. The drive is compact, not portable.
It needs to be plugged into mains as well as the computer which makes it less portable, but it is so quiet I can't even hear that is switched on even when it is writing or reading. I would highly recommend this product or even one of the bigger sized ones, though I couldn't afford the 1TB mybook.
Remember 500GB is marketing...

Advantages: Simple Setup, great value for money Disadvantages: Win 2000/XP/Vista only - not for Win 98/ME
...I have previously purchased a Freecom 500GB external drive drive and have been very happy with it's performance and reliability. So when the drive started to become 80% full it was time to look for some additional storage. I saw the new Freecom 1TB drive on Amazon and given my previous good experiences purchased one straight away. It arrived this morning (Tuesday) having ordered in the previous Friday, and all of this post free.
For anyone that hasn't bought a Freecom external hard drive before, you get a very stylish drive unit, power adapter, leads and installation disk. Installing (in my case) took less than 5 minutes, most of the time was spent unpacking the pieces.
Simply attached the usb lead, power pack and switched on. Instantly recognised by the Windows XP operating system as the next drive letter.
The unit is virtually...

...capture, which you press to activate the camera, this automatically loads it and you can see yourself on screen, you can also change the camera to movie mode and create a film also. The camera is a 1.3megapixel but for 1.3megapixels it takes good quality photos, my mobile phone is a 3.2megapixel but the intergrated camera on my laptop is much better quality. It is very simple to use and relocate photos after they have been taken.

There is only so much I can say about the hard drive in terms of use. Basically, a hard drive is a hard drive and this functions as well as any other. However, I have had no problems with use of the drive or loudness. The hard drive excels in it's... more
