This camera is the top of the budget Sony DV range, and is their cheapest MegaPixel and Widescreen camera.
It has a 10x optical zoom, with variable speed, autofocus is generally good but occasionally gets caught out - not at all often, but it can annoy. The wide angle setting is not very wide, you may want to get a wide angle adaptor lens. Wide angle IS wider though when in 16x9 mode.
This is one of the first mid range DV cameras to support a proper 16x9 anamorphic mode for wide screen TVs, it can do this because it has a Megapixel chip, it does not zoom up a 4x3 picture, it uses more chip width for this mode.
Picture quality is excellent, it looks superb on my 32" TV.
Low light is not great but it is usable in doors, night shot is more a gimick but it can be usefull.

Advantages: Very Easy to Operate Disadvantages: Sony products and accessories are expensive.
I purchased this DCR TRV33 8 months ago. The Price is around 512 GBP. I think that is a bit expensive, but since the quality is very good you need not worry and you will get your full money?s worth.

As I have said, according to my opinion, the Sony DCR TRV33 is the best camcorder you could buy in the available models in the market today.
It has all the basic features anyone would expect in a digital camcorder and believe me it's well built.

It's a Mini DV, which automatically reduces the size by almost 40 percent compared to even the digital 8 camcorders of Sony, like DCR TRV 355 which I own.
It's recording quality is of 1 Megapixel, which ensures the recorded movie is of much greater quality compared to the digital 8 family which is 0.8 Megapixel.
All the menu options are on the LCD screen and touch sensitive which makes it easier to manage the options.
It fits perfectly in the hand and does not seem heavy at all.
The startup is also better compared to DCR TRV 355.
