The name Sony has long been associated with quality in the CD sector since the development of the audio CD in the early eighties. The expertise that Sony has built up since that time has also been invested in Sony CD-R and CD-RW technology. In addition to outstanding performance, this CD-RW drive offers a whole range of professional features making this most advanced CD-ReWritable drive available; in short, a CD writer which fully meets the demands of today's multimedia and storage applications.

...I have had no problems with my CRX-140E which was a bare drive ie no instructions, audio lead or IDE cable. I have upgraded the firmware to the latest version 1.0p without any problem.
I mainly use it for CDR copies of both audio and data and have never had a coffee mat yet!, saying that I have used the CDRW format for backup of some file that change on a weekly basis again very reliable.
It works at 32 x Read, 8 x CDR writing, 4 x CDRW writing which is fairly high spec for CDR writing. I have always found Sony to be a good reliable make and would recommend this model to you if require reliability, okay its not the cheapest drive on the market.

...buffer to avoid any data overruns. Obviously the fact that it can burn a CD-R at 10x means that disc copying is pretty quick. Provided appropriate high quality media is used it performs flawlessly whilst creating both single and multi-session discs.
The software bundled with the drive comprises; CD Extreme for general CD creation and copying, abCD which allows you to “Drag & drop" files or folders to CD-RW discs just like to a floppy or hard drive, Spressa Play & Record MP3/WAV player with integrated CD recording capability, and Retrospect Express which is a full featured back up with disaster recovery package. The software CD comes with an integrated product installer so you can easily choose which packages you want to use with your drive.

Overall, this drive is well-priced, fast, efficient and reliable. Definitely the best budget IDE CD-Writer I have used (and I have used about 10) - recommended.
NB. The drive may still be available cheaply online, but it has been replaced in the sony product line by the CRX230 model. Check it out here:
