Getting fed up with constantly having to buy new batteries for our Wii remotes, we started looking into buying some of the rechargeable battery packs you can buy for them. I read a few reviews and decided that it would probably be better to buy a battery charger and a few sets of batteries instead.
After looking around I found the Sony High Capacity Super Quick Charger For AA And AAA Batteries and for £16.99 with four AA batteries included it seemed like a good deal, almost all of our electrical items seem to be Sony so with it being a brand we trusted I bought it.
The charger itself is fairly compact measuring 4" x 2½" x 1" (not including the power lead) it won't take up a lot of room, the power lead is also removable so you can store it away quite easily. The lead is also the same as the other Sony leads we have so if it gets misplaced we can use another one if needs be, although we tend not to take the lead off of it so this shouldn't be a problem.
One of the reasons I was attracted to this charger was that the charge time for completely flat batteries is just 4½ hours. I remember when my parents first bought a battery charger years ago and it used to take what felt like forever to charge the batteries, not what you need when you've just got to play Mario Kart and your batteries need replacing.
Once the batteries have reached full charge the charger has an automatic safety cut off feature so it isn't wasting your electricity unnecessarily. It also has an orange light which is lit when the unit is charging.
The batteries last for ages too, which is another bonus. You don't want to have just charged them up to find 2 hours later you need to put them back in the charger.
If you want to charge AAA batteries there are only two slots in the charger and these are in the middle where two of the AA slots are so you can only charge 2 AAA on their own or 2 AAA + 2 AA together. This is probably to keep the charger more compact. This isn't an issue for us, as we don't have many things which take AAAs.
When in use the charger does get quite hot, so the automatic cut off comes in handy here.
I have found the flip down cover which covers the batteries isn't the most sturdy and can come off if you're not careful. It does clip back into place easily, but it would be better if it didn't happen.
I have bought another four rechargeable batteries for use with this, to use while the others are on charge and now I have bought Wii Fit I'll be buying some more to use in that. Of course you can use the batteries in things that aren't Wii related but that just seems to be the thing in our house which drains batteries so it's ideal for that.
You can buy four AA Ni-MH batteries for around £10 and as mentioned earlier we paid £16.99 for our charger which still seems to be the price on play.com
Thanks for reading :)
