The Sony Vaio a business laptop, not this one. Even thought sony would make a laptop for your home use, shur the business ones were great and good to use at home, but this one goes the other way round its great at home and good for business, though not as portable with a 17" screen so for a business i wouldn't recommend, but still good. It seems Vaio have started to make good laptops for the home as well as leading the way in business laptops. This one features a 17" screen! 2.1 Ghz processor, which is pretty fast and 2 GB of ram which is excelent for your mulitimedia uses. 400GB or storage! superb for storing movies and songs, and a gig or video memory again superb for movies meaning more frames per second are played and of better quality.
At £1000 you may feel it's out of budget, but it has a blu-ray player, which will cost in excess of £300 it will play your blu-ray DVD's on its 17" screen HD compatible ofcorse, and the sound on the laptop is very clear, however for watching movie i always connect external speakers with a sub-woofer.
The keybord is of standard size and nice to tounch, the finger pad smooth, both as you'd expect, and do not cause problems by stopping from working. It has 3 usb ports, which is good for a laptop some annoyingly only come with one, which is very annoying as usb are very common and you will want to connect more than one at a time.
Overall as a laptop is it high end, very high end, all of the specs are superb and of great build quality, if anything was of moderate spec it's the processor which can be upgraded but at a cost as usual =|..but overall a great laptop for your homes multimedia uses, great to use with kids (its strong) great for entertaining.
