I've had a Dell, Toshiba and an HP laptop all in the past 4 years or so, each developed faults or just became to slow to run the most basic of task's. We all know Laptops can not compare to desktop equivalents with even the most primary of tasking, this new Sony offering breaks that rule.
The thing that first drew to me to the laptop was not only the Sony Vaio brand but it was also the design, its sexy! - Brushed silver effect and very thin. It's light and the screen is stunning, yes the thing you stare at 98% of the time this is powered up, something that most laptop manufacturers seem to not acknowledge, it is in fact very clear and bright. The keyboard layout seems a little strange upon first viewing, especially if you are used to most other brands. It is this minor redesign however that I rate a one of it's main attributes; as I write this now I am hardly making a typing error, something many people do when typing on a laptop due to the key's being huddled together. The only downside to the keyboard is that it is a little on the load size when pressing the key's. You can live with it!
The first thing you will notice upon turning it first on is how fast it loads to the vista start screen. I clock it around the 10 second mark, this in comparison to my higher spec desktop is slightly faster. The screen hit's you once you get to the desktop, everything is vibrant and colourful. I had a 20 minute play around with the laptop, it has a nice feature called "Switch" - there are 5 buttons running along the top of the keyboard which you assign to loading a program i.e. internet explorer; thus meaning you're favourite programs are just a click away.
After 20 minutes off toying with it something else surprising strikes me, I can't hear anything, not that I am deafened by the loudness of the on board speakers, it is in fact the fan, there is no noise! What a bonus - lying next to your wife who's trying to get to sleep at 2am whilst you finish a report is no longer a bother, this is whisper quiet.
The specs as you can read from the product info speak for themselves, The processor keeps things ticking over smoothly, the RAM is of a good spec and programs load fast and allows you to run multiple programs easily. The hard drive is more than enough for storing documents, pictures, programs and even many of movies.
It's Wi-Fi compatible, meaning any wireless internet can be connected to (presuming you know the pass code obviously!) whether your at the library, at home or at McDonalds, its fast and easy. Just flick he switch to ON at the bottom of the laptop and an icon pop's up on the screen and takes you through what to do next. It also has built in Bluetooth, meaning you can connect any Bluetooth compatible device to your laptop, be it a Bluetooth speaker or your mobile phone for transferring ringtones and pictures.
Two last little features, it has a built in webcam which is excellent quality and also the graphics card is of a good quality, something rare in laptops of this pricing range. This mean's you can play some decent new games on it easily.
I find it hard to make fault's with this laptop, it's near perfect and I could not be more happy. Sure it cost's a little more than it's rivals but it will be money well invested I promise.
