I bought a Sony Vaio PCG-F701 before travelling to Afica. I wanted a lap top that would cope with linking to a video camera and that would stand up to reasonable travel conditions. I am now back from a 6 months trip and the Vaio has stood up to the trip well. The large screen size and keyboard ... Read review

I regretted not taking my external mouse though, as the touchpad mouse has its limitations at times. The disappointment has been the video link up. The DVgate still software worked well and was easy to use. However, DVgate movie was fine for downloading material from my Sony digital video camera, but refused to record back to the video camera because of lack of memory ... despite having 64mb of Ram. I had enquired about upgrading this to 128mb before leaving but at £200 for the extra 64mb that was far too expensive. Pricewise the Sony PCG-F 701 compared reasonably well with other similar computers. Its main advantage to me was the compatibility with my Sony camcorder, and the media programmes and i-link included. The two USB slots are also useful for adding peripherals such as printer or zip drive. There are also two PCMIA slots. Sound from the internal stereo speakers is not bad, although it can be improved by adding external speakers for playing music.
Advantages: Specification, Support, Reputable Name Disadvantages: HPA Screen, Price
I recently bought the Vaio PCG F701 laptop as, going by its specifications, it looked to be a very good computer. Indeed, it is a very good computer with a high specification compared to other similarly priced notebook computers on the market. The software that comes with the notebook is also very useful, making it extremely easy to check battery life, change contrast and brightness. The Support (Vaio Link) Is extremely good, no being put on hold ...

...ago my mum brought a Sony Vaio Laptop from Curries, which was the one I was thinking of getting myself. Anyway when my mum got home with the laptop and opened it up she had noticed that the battery was missing. she went down to Curries and got the battery and for the inconvenience they gave her a free mouse. When my mum set the computer up she turned the computer on and started to find out whats what and then the computer just shut down by itself, ... ...the manager she got another Sony Vaio PCG-F701 laptop in exchange for the other one so we went home and finally had fun on the computer. A year later and the computer is starting to play up again, the screen goes black then flashes back to normal, I think she would of better been off with a normal desktop computer but she wanted a Sony Vaio as they are supposed to be really good. The laptop also goes really slow, it only has 500 MHz, 64 MB SDRAM ...
