"Sony Vaio FX-902"

Sony have so many laptops out, and with so much choice its so hard to decide which laptop is right for you. The FX-902 was the first laptop i ever bought, and believe me it wasnt easy. I scoured the net for months searching for a laptop that suited my needs, i didnt want something too fancy, or too expensive, but one day it hit me. I give you the Sony Vaio FX-902.

The FX-902 is the latest edition in the alread popular FX series of laptops, sporting great looks, excellent specs, for an affordable price. With business intended it makes an excellent laptop for any business user or for any entry level laptop user such as myself.

The difference between the FX-905 and the FX-902 is the monitor. The 902 has a smaller 14.1" monitor compared to the 905's 15". The difference isnt vast but it makes a hell of a difference if your going to be watching DVD's or video clips on your laptop.

With a 1.4ghz processor and a 20gig hard drive, the 902 is perfect for most jobs that dont require too much stress on the computer (such as hardcore gaming.) This laptop has word processing, internet surfing and general dogs body work in mind so if your buying this laptop as a main computer hoping to play the latest games, your in for a shock. In my opinion 20gig is just right considering you dont load too many games or music files on to it, i believe you can also buy external hard drives just incase you do run out of space.

The 902 comes with 256 mb of DDR ram which can be upgraded quite easily to 512 if needed. I personally dont feel as though the laptop would require a memory upgrade but to each their own.

The battery lasts for about 1.5 to 2 hours depending on what your doing. If you will be using this specifically for business then a battery extension can be bought but at a price, £100 or there abouts. It weighs about 3kg which is pretty bulky for a laptop, but due to its mobility needs in mind sony have shaped it so that it can fit in lots of psaces really easily.

The laptop comes with 2 USB 2.0 ports, 1 parallel and 1 printer port, aswell as a network port and a telephone line port. I personally like to hook this laptop up to my LAN, which can be done via my wireless LAN card (purchased serperatly and plugged into one of the card slots,) or plug a network cable in. Other ways to connect to the internet are via the modem and phoneline or to purchase a bluetooth phone and bluetooth card and use GPRS.

Like with all Sony computing products the system comes with an array of their software, some which are good, some which are not. Try to steer clear of the Sonic Stage and the picture viewer. The 902 comes with the latest version of Windows XP Professional.

Now for the best part, this laptop only cost me £850. This is excellent value for money.

I will keep this one for future reference. I had a laptop, second hand, until a few months back when the little diddy battery inside decided to run out (obselete of course) and I could not find one to replace it - scoured the internet and all the geeky type shops who may have had one lurking in the back room. The 'puter was just completely worthless/useless once the battery was dead so it went to the tip. Such a bummer! Nice op, welcome to Ciao. Gwen :)
