Sometime back I was looking for a laptop and suffered a setback after I purchased a Fujitsu Siemens. See my review on it. I lost enthusiasm and decided I am not going to buy one at all! Like all other emotions- this feeling died down off after few months and I started looking for a Laptop again.
I went to a local dealer and explained all the features I wanted in a Laptop. With all these features + an Intel Pentium processor was getting over my range and the clever salesperson at Comet suggested that I could go for a Celeron to solve the budget side of it! He showed me the beautiful Laptop with a black, shiny screen and I really fell for it! The title of my review shows a different model number- I had suggested Ciao of my product and they told me its already listed. I tried and found this model to put it under this! If anyone knows how to move it- please do that for me. Do not get confused the model I am talking about is - Sony VAIO K215B (PCG-K215B) PC Notebook.

Once you have read the boring bits- the information above is for those readers who like to have details, I will tell you what I liked/disliked about the Laptops. The Laptop looks great- beautiful silver colour. Feels good to work with, keys very easy to use. Mouse - much more sensitive than other laptops. Best part is the display - shiny black, easy to see, best part is viewing movies, feels absolutely great. Speakers are quite powerful and you can hear dialogues without attaching external speakers!
Speed - reasonable, sometimes slow- just does nothing for 10sec! I have not been able to understand why! Reliable- had it for 12 months now. Good networking- works well with wireless. It did not come with lot of extras, do if you are a pro, please go for an upgraded model- as buying software could be expensive. If you are a bit brand conscious- this will be good for you!
The cost was £750 at Comet, extended warranty makes it a bit dearer. Laptop prices have gone down significantly in last 12 months, I do not know what it costs now.
Advantages: Absolutely TINY & great for wifi networking Disadvantages: It is not new and therefore seems a little slow sometimes...
Before I start, all the relevant specs of the laptop can be seen on the Ciao site, it even specifies what type of Ram it uses (PC2100), so I won't go into those details here.
Also, to put it all into perspective, it's not a brand new laptop and therefore I'm not sure if they are sold new anymore, I got my own second hand actually.
So, let's begin.
The best thing about this laptop is that it has been optimised for mobility, both power usage, which ... ...battery which still has got a fair bit of bite to it you can continue to work for longer than you'd expect maybe...(or listen to music etc..).
What I love about this little piece of kit is that it has all the features I was looking for, but it comes in a stylish (ask Apple..) white package, which stands out more than you usual grey or silver coloured laptops. My laptop came with Win XP Professional but only 256Mb Ram. I can tell you from the bottom ...

Advantages: Compact, Lightweight, Excellent Battery Life, Truly portable thanks to Bluetooth Disadvantages: Size can make typing tricky, Speaker quality is poor for music playback
small, is very clear, and does not blur when moving images are played on it (as can occur with some LCD screens). It is also significantly larger than most screens on portable DVD players, making for a very good viewing experience. The DVD software included by Sony is also exceptionally easy to use and adjust and the speakers are adequate for watching movies. However, playback of music will sound very 'tinny'. This is not a real problem however, since it is easy to transfer mp3s to a cd with the re-writer or simply to plug the computer into your stereo system.
The only real downside of the VaioTR1 is that it is perhaps not suitable for larger people, or those with particularly large hands! The keyboard is naturally as compact as the rest of the computer, and there isn't a great deal of space to rest the wrists. This means that you may ...
Advantages: Its Tiny , has in-built webcam look snazzeh. Disadvantages: still to big for my pockets!!! the sound.
Well mr sony BIG UP YASELF u have done it again.
An absolutley fantastic little piece of kit with a serious amount of little added extras.
I wanted something small compact light and easy to use and i get all of this from this little box. Most impressive im well happy.
In this little beauty is the one of the new centrino processors which gives it the abilty to dive onto any wireless network within one of the many hotspots around. How cool is this though (my local nightclub Baja is a freaking hotspot) :D and to be honest after running it alongside othe pc's and laptops including my own i found it gives alot of up to date processors a good run for their money.
Ram really wasnt an issue either as it came with 256Mb ddr sdram which was easily upgraded to a massive 1gb.
Graphics were the box standard intel ones but i never bought ...
