I love the technology we have available nowadays there is so much on the market, but sometimes it is difficult to know what to choose. If you are looking for a new Walk-man then you cannot go far wrong with The Sony W-Series Walk-man. It has an innovative, slimline design that takes the Walk-man to a new level. You get a pair of ear buds, but incorporated into them is an MP3 player. The result is a lightweight Walk man that is easy to carry around anywhere you go. When you purchase the Walk-man you may have trouble believing that such a good sound system can come from something so small. Well... they say that the best things come in small packages and it is certainly true in this case.
It is such a simple Walk-man to use and Sony provides an original feature for browsing songs which is an added bonus.
Although there are plenty of good things about this Walk man it doesn't have a screen and can be a little uncomfortable to wear at times. I know we are moving forward with technology, but there was something about those headphones that you put over
your ears instead of inside them. They were more comfortable and stayed in the same place for longer. Although these are a good set of ear phones and do stay in place well.
If you want to wear a set of earphones whilst working out with the option of listening to a wide range of songs then this is the Walk-man is for you. It has a lot of memory more than you probably need.
This is a digital player with flash memory installed. It has the capability of 2 GB. Its digital player is supported by digital audio standards: AAC , MP3 , WMA and Protected WMA (DRM).
Although it might seem a very basic way of making a wireless MP3 player it is very effective. There are no audio - fidelity problems that you would usually get with technologies like RF and Blue tooth. So although it might seem like Sony have taken the easy way out they have provided a Walk-man that works highly efficiently. The new W Series Walk-man comes in two lovely colours (black or pink). I opted for the pink one because I really like the colour pink and black is a bit too ordinary for me. However the black one looks neat and stylish.
It has two rectangular audio modules that measure about 2-inches long by 0.8-inch wide and 0.4-inch deep. You attach them to each other via a flexible, twisting neckband. It really is such a compact system compared with others on the market. The Sony Walk-man is effective, simple to use and convenient. If you need a Walk-man that is not going to let you down and one that will last you could do a lot worse. Although the price might seem expensive at around 59.99GBP you are paying for the quality. The weight of this system is only (1.3 ounces).
The other thing I love about this Walk man that I have had problems with other Walk-man's before is that it is secure. It doesn't come out of your ears a lot like other Walk-man's tend to do. For active sports this is ideal because you don't need to worry about it falling out whilst working out. Even with the most active pursuits this Walk-man has not failed me. I have used this system for walking, jogging and cycling and found it stayed in place during each of these sports. The comfort was my main concern because these ear buds are integrated they are not as comfortable as they could be. What is good is that Sony include three sizes of silicone ear-tips so these do help.
Although there is no screen this didn't really matter. You can list all of your songs in alphabetical order that makes it easier to find your favourite tracks. If you don't want to use the alphabetical default then you can use the shuffle feature which is found on the inside of the right earpiece to randomize playback.
The bottom edge of the right module keeps all the other controls. There is a volume rocker and a jog dial. If you swipe the dial forward or backward it cycles through the tracks.
Although there are not many extra features the quality of sound and ease of use makes up for it. The quality of the product is extremely high, Sony does include a few unique and useful features. The first extra feature is called Zappin, this allows you to browse tracks by ear by playing a small part of the chorus of each song. I love this feature as you don't need to listen to the whole song before deciding if you really want to listen to that song at all. Some of the songs you have stored on the Walk-man could be slower songs not particularly suited for working out. For this feature you have the option of either trying the (10 seconds) or short (4 seconds) , and if there is a song you want to listen to, press the jog button and the song will begin from the start of the song. The player also features a quick-charge feature that provides 90 minutes of playback from a 3-minute charge. If you are in a rush this is a great option. Along with the product you will get a sticky-bottomed stand/docking station for charging the device and transferring songs (done via standard Mini-USB). Each earpiece is cleverly magnetized and when together, the player automatically shuts down.
Sony have concentrated on the compact design of this Walk-man and unfortunately this rules out several extra features that would have been handy. Things like an FM tuner would have been good for the gym. The 12 hour battery life is not as good compared with some systems. The audio quality is very good though and it has no distortion or background hiss. Although the ear-buds could stop outside noise better it doesn't really affect the quality of sound. The volume is good especially at the gym where you need to block out the noise from gym equipment.
It can hold up to 500 tracks which for me is more than adequate. It supports most of the common audio file formats, including mp3, AAC and WMA (DRM). I love the way this system easily drags and drops songs straight from your computer. It is a Walk-man highly worth buying especially if you need a Walk-man for the gym since its compact design means it is suitable for exercise.

Too true @ difficult knowing what to choose, there's just so much choice out there. Sony Walkman was really one of the first and foremost personal music players, back in the good old days of audio tapes haha! 500 tunes would be more than enough for my needs too, but my Zen has 8Gb or is it 16Gb (I forget) and I don't even use 1/5th of that! x
