...as a result. Sony are no strangers to the portable audio market, having been a prominent leader in the development of high quality technology for the past 26 years. Their first introduction being that of the cassette walkman 26 years ago, which charted Sony as the first for all portable audio products, with a reputation for quality and durability.
Since then Sony have also jumped on the bandwagon with hard-drive products. However, as with much of ... ...Lo and behold the new Sony MP3 Walkman, brought to us in two capacities, 6 and 20 gigabytes. The NWA1000 (6 gig) will hold 4-5000 songs dependent on the file size you use, and the NWA3000 (20 gig) 13,000 tracks. Both, more than ample for the enthusiastic audiophiles amongst you. Both models share the same features, the only difference being in the storage capacity.

...that I came across the Sony Walkman, on Dabs - where it had been reduced in price to £115.00. I decided, after yet more research that this was the player for me. I had used Sony products before, such as the cassette Walkman and their Discman CD player range, and they had always worked well. So, after much debating with myself, I took the plunge. The Walkman finally arrived within 3 days. As expected with Sony, the packaging was very stylish. The ... ...3x3 icons (similar to the Sony Ericsson mobile interface) with the following functions:

...I paid £159.99pence for this Sony Mp3 player earlier on today. This was from my local Argos store but I am not sure if its available cheaper else where. Argos are usually pretty good so for the hassle of looking everywhere I usually stick to buying bits there.
It comes in a fairly sturdy black case with all the bits bagged up inside.
What it comes with

Well inside the box obviously is the little Mp3 player itself. There ... ...and a software CD. Now at first I though I was missing a piece for the charger but on looking in the little "getting started" leaflet I found that the USB cable was also used for the charging the little thing.
You are able to charge the Mp3 player wither by using the USB cable plugged into your computer and it charges off that or use it with the adaptor to charge from a wall outlet. I thought being able to charge it through your computer was pretty ...

Advantages: Beautiful to hold, looks great, Its very strong, sturdy, massive storage space on a HDD Disadvantages: Sony connect is painfully slow and unreliable, some might find the EU noise reduction limit annoying.
...nice box, black with the Sony logo embossed on the front, i love those little touches! Further inside is the Mp3 player itself, it really is a treat opening this, it looks great, feels great. The player is about the size of a deck of cards and has a nice weight about it, very comfortable in the palm of my hand.
When you turn on the mp3 player first time, you get 3 tracks of music on it so you can play straight away ( after 10 mins or so charging). ... ...none the less, Sony have really thought about the small details.

...'artist link' button (exclusive to Sony walkmans) on the left side of the walkman. The charger and USB connection port is located on the bottom of the unit, with the headphone port on the top. The unit measures only 80mm by 55mm (considerably smaller than my old iPod) and feels a lot lighter.
The software on the walkman is very simple to use with the navigation arrows and enter buttons, you can search for songs, artists or albums by initial, play ... ...long until I discovered that sony had released an updated version of the software (now called SonicStage) which is a lot easier to use and now works brilliantly. So my advice would be to forget the CD supplied with the walkman and install SonicStage (which is available through Sony's main site, or just google it)
Overall though, the Sony NW-A1000 walkman is an excellent competitor to the Apple iPod and in my opinion has a lot more useful features ...
