Ahh the first review of a new item, where do I begin…
Right I will start by giving you a personal opinion about what I like and dislike about the player. I recently purchased the Sony Walkman when my Apple ipods battery packed in. There has been a lot of controversy recently regarding the battery life of the ipods so when mine packed I was gutted. £250 down the pan. After loosing out on this amount of money I vowed never to spend that sort of money on an MP3 player again. I had a look around the internet and local shops looking for a decent memory, well branded, reasonably priced player. I looked through all brands such as Samsung, Phillips, Panasonic, Zen, and even some of the Mp3 player mobile phones. I noted down the players I liked from various retailers then searched the net for better prices and better deals. When searching on Amazon I randomly came across the Sony Walkman NW-E003.
The first thing I noticed about the player was how small and compact it was compared to the ipod. To give you a perfect idea of the size of the unit I would say it was slightly bigger than a cocktail sausage. The unit is an elegant pink colour with the LCD screen behind the plastic covering which helps protect the screen. The player has a very easy to use interface with only a few easy to use buttons.
Depending on the competence of the user the unit's lack of features can either be a negative or a positive. For the more competent electronic users the Walkman lacks exciting features therefore has no where near the same sort of features that the ipod has. But if you don't want to spend hundreds of pounds then the units features will not compare. If you haven't got a clue how to use these things and want a player that has been designed for one thing and one thing only then this is the one for you.
The unit is available in 512mbs or 1gb. For me this was adequate as I regularly update my tunes. This is by far enough memory to fit many of your favourite albums and play lists on. My ipod was a massive 40gb which was a complete waste of money as I have no where near that amount of music to put on.
The unit charges via the USB port in the computer. Basically you plug it in and it charges up as easy as that. This is also excellent as when transferring your music to and from the player it charges. This function is very good as users will not have to hunt down available plugs to plug the unit in and charge it. The Sony Walkman NW-E003 MP3 also has an excellent auto turn off which helps save battery life and turns itself of when is not being used. It also has screen saver function so when the music is playing and the user is not interacting with the interface it switches off to save battery power.
The item comes boxed with many different user manuals for different languages. It also comes with a quick guide so you can quickly learn how to use the player and how to transfer music from your computer to the memory of the player. Within the boxes comes the Sony software which is installed onto your computer enabling the user to transfer the music. This also has a very easy to use guide helping the user through the process of installing the software. Once installed the user is greeted with and excellent, easy and simple to use program that is very user friendly. If you are not computer literate then this software is the one for you as the help function is very informative and transferring files is much easier.
QUICK INFORMATION
Advantages
Small and compact Attractive Easy to use Fits just enough tracks Excellent volume control In ear earphones Protected LCD screen Low functionality making player easier to use Excellent manual Easy to use and user friendly software Easy to use charging Fits good number of tracks Good battery life
Disadvantages
Low level of functions Must have a computer to charge the unit Very small so short sighted users may struggle No in wall charger
All in all I feel this is an excellent mp3 player. It will not be challenging the likes of apple ipods as it hasn't the same functions and reputations as the ipod. However I feel this item would be an excellent alternative for users after a quick and simple, easy to use unit.

Advantages: Cheap, Small, attractive, fast recharging battery Disadvantages: LCD screen hard to read in sunlight, sound not loud enough
...The Sony Walkman is small and compact, weighing as little as 25g and no bigger than 3inchs in length, and about 1cm in depth. It has an attractive coloured plastic covering the software inside. The MP3 player connects directly into your computers USB port by removing the silver plastic covering at the end of the player. It has a small LCD screen which displays the name of the song, the artist or the name of the album but not all this information ... ...dead. The Sony Walkman comes with it's own Sony headphones which are useful because they are fairly long in wire meaning I can keep my MP3 player in my bag while I walk. It also comes with it's only Sony software that uploads the songs onto your player. This is simple to install and use and I have not experienced any problems using this software. For some however this may be regarded as a downside to the MP3 player as many will be reluctant to install ...

Advantages: Long battery life, quick charge Disadvantages: Have to use Sony's Sonicstage software. Display hard to read in sunlight.
...20 albums worth on here. Sony reckon that if you use their ALTRAC format at 64kbps you can get up to 45 albums on here. I haven't used their format so I can't comment on the sound quality here.
To transfer music onto this player you have to use Sony's Sonicstage software, you cannot just drag & drop your files from Windows Explorer. The more tech savvy and those who are unkeen to install extra software may find this quite annoying but once the program ... ...battery life.
Quick charge facility.
Small, compact player.
Lightweight.
Good sound quality.
Easy operation.
Bad points:
Display impossible to read in sunlight.
Enforced use of Sony Sonicstage software.
Overall this is a good buy for those wanting a small, compact MP3 player with excellent battery life. ...

Advantages: Size, simple software, USB charging facility, its a Sony Disadvantages: Small display, accessory skin over priced
...piece, CD to load on Sony software & a pile of instruction manuals in different langauges(?!) There is no charging lead so charging is carried out by plugging the unit into a computer with the USB connector loctaed under the removable cap. A power monkey can also be used if you have one. The sofware that Sony supply makes transferring music from computer to MP3 very simple indeed, I already have a Sony lap top which is pre-loaded with the same software. Gripes? Only one, a plastic protective skin is available from Sony for around £12.00 which is a complete rip off. ...

Advantages: Good player, nice and small Disadvantages: Durability, and Sony charges to fix the player
...this ended it\'s life entirely
Sony - Having contacted them to see about getting my NW-e003 fixed they informed me that there would be a one off charge for any fix of £75, not great when I only spent £57 on it in the first place
Recommendation - based soley on the player I would recommend it, but on the basis of the repair charge I can not recommend it's durability - mine only lasted 3 weeks (though I now avoid tomato soup!) ...

Sony = Quality
Technology giants Sony broke the mould with this slimline mp3 that was released about a year ago. I first obtained mine as a replacement for a packard bell one had as a crimbo present that unfortunately died after only a few months. I was not totally convined at first, as my previous one had a screen for displaying pictures, which this did not.
I soon fell in love with this nippy and efficient machine. One of the many features of ... ...teh sound quality is typical Sony beauty. I have dropped mine countles times, not a scratch, with teh display being protected by a think plastic cover.
The only fault i can find with the mp3 is the poor software, rather than use windows media, Sony invested in its own multimedia software named 'Sonicstage'. This is slow at the best of times, and constantly glitches to a total stop, although it does have an excellent CD-ROM write feature.
Excellent ...
