I seem to have a huge collection of MP3 players…the reason…well I easily get bored of my older items and they end up in a drawer hidden away. I don't necessarily update the MP3 player with 'better' models but players that are a particular colour or have particular features. I chose this MP3 player because of its 2GB memory.
APPEARANCE --------------------- The MP3 player is quite small in size and it does fit quite easily in the hand which is good when running for the bus. It is quite lightweight which again suits me perfectly for use when travelling, running or in the gym.
The MP3 player is violet with a silver lid covering the USB connection. The MP3 player looks very snazzy and is very easy to use. The main buttons such as stop, forward, back, play and stop are positioned along the side of the MP3 player so I can change tracks/volume when the player is in my pocket.
SOUND QUALITY ------------------------ The sound quality is very good. As a Sony player I wouldn't expect anything less to be quite honest. I have grown up around Sony speakers and audio equipment and know that it is a highly respected manufacturer.
EASE OF USE ------------------- The MP3 player comes with SonicStage 3.4 software which I found very difficult to use. When copying music from CD's I had to change the settings to 'unprotect' the files. Basically WMA files that are protected do not work on the player which was basically most of them, so it was not easy to include them on my player. When inserted into a USB slot most MP3 players automatically open a 'removable disk' file and the music files can be copied over through a 'drag and drop' method.
Other than that it is quite easy to use the USB jack fits nicely in the slot in my USB hub and due to the thin MP3 player it fits quite snug between other appliances such as my memory stick, mouse and card reader.
The MP3 player has a very good memory and many music files can be stored on the player. I have 157 music files on there at the moment and it's still not full. It does say however that 90 CD's can easily be compressed using ATRAC although I had many problems so gave up on most CD's.
POWER SUPPLY ----------------------- Charging the MP3 player is very easy and it only takes a few minutes to get about 2 hours use out of it. To get a lot more I usually charge it for 2-3 hours and that gives me several days use (2-3 hours per day). The player is charged via the USB so I find that this is best done when I am working on the computer, although I can leave it charging while I am doing a virus check and this does not cause any inconvenience.
DURABILITY ------------------ I have been quite careful with this MP3 player, but it does seem very durable. I have managed to leave it on my bedroom floor and stood on it a few times, yet it still works. The surface is not easy to scratch which is obviously a very good thing. I find that when the screen becomes scratched it makes it very hard to read the song track, particularly in the sunlight.
PRICE --------- I managed to get this MP3 player for £24 on Ebay although it available from most online stores such as Amazon (£28.53), Play.com (£49.99) and Twenga (£38.70)
OVERALL --------------- If you can work out how to use the software, or do not mind compressing every CD using the specific programme then this MP3 player is a very good purchase. I however found the software very difficult to use and had many problems with my CD's and MP3 tracks, especially those CD's recorded for me by mates.
Unfortunately it's not a case 'plug in' and then 'drag and drop' so I found it a very difficult player to get used to. If you are quite good with computers or if you have a fast computer then this player is ideal. I unfortunately cannot give it more than 3* for use despite its small and snazzy appearance.
