...decision to go for the Sony A100 Alpha and the following is my review and recommendation.
Please note that my review is an overall purchasing and general review rather than a full blown technical evaluation, this is because I am not a photography expert and there are numerous web reviews that go into the minute details of all of the technicalities of the product. I still hope this review is useful.

I am the sort of person ... ...DSLR.
WHY THE SONY ALPHA? AND WHY NOW?
The Sony Alpha A100 was originally released in about June 2006. Often in the electronics market place you can expect updated products to be released about once a year, I am not certain that this will happen with the A100 but I wouldn’t be too surprised, but then comes the difficulty, like buying any piece of electronics. Do I wait until the next thing comes along or do I find the best possible deal now and ...

Advantages: Good for big hands, lots of controls, great starter kit, takes Konica/Minolta lenses Disadvantages: not for people who want to take snaps
...Despair no more!
Sony who was already thinking of entering the SLR market and producing parts for Nikon (like the sensors) and collaborating with KM was wise enough to buy the expertise and engineering facilities that would have otherwise been wasted...
I should explain that SLR stands for "single lens reflex". The camera operates through the viewfinder so you cannot see the picture on the screen until it has been taken. It is aimed at the enthusiast ... ...kettle of fish.
The Sony is a brand new camera that is not re-inventing the wheel. The body is almost the same as the KM Dynax 5d but has been given a more ergonomic design and trademark Sony controls. You also have two tiers of lenses from Sony, one is the more budget orientated Sony lenses and for those who are professionals and have large budgets there are Sony lenses with Carl Zeiss optics which are second to none...
You can also get lenses ...

Advantages: ease of use, good design Disadvantages: lack of cover for preview screen
I recently purchased the sony a 100 for two reasons the first being that I could use my existing lenses, and secondly the price at about £400 I thought was quite reasonable.
although I have only used it for about two weeks I was really impressed when I took a picture in a cave with only ambient light, something that would have been virtually impossible with a film camera.
The camera is fairly light it weighs about the same as a slr film camera. ... ...with sony at their website.
The design is good it sits well in the hand your finger naturally falls on to the shutter button. The lcd screen is large and clear although i am worried that this could be damaged easily, but i am sure you can get a cover for this, this will be my next purchase.
The battery lasts for about 750 shots mine lasted for about 600 but i was using the preview screen quite a lot. It would be worth carrying a spare.
The data ...

Sony alpha A100 Review ofSony a (alpha) DSLR-A100Wby
DarkNights
Advantages: Stlish digital slr Disadvantages: sony customer service
At first glance the sony alpha a100 feals slightyly plastickly, but this is partly due to the fact that the body itself is made out of plastic, never the less the sony a100 is a fantastic digital sslr for the first time photograhper.
Although it is slightly dissapointing that sony has not made a vertical grip for this product, overall the smooth shiny feal to the sony alpha a100, feals nice, and the shutter button fits snugguly into your right hand, ... ...when i accidently smashed my sony alpha 3 days after purchasing it, i was devistated, but not to worry, i was soon on to sony, and was relieved that there was a set price of £114 but i had to forck out a lumply sum of £360 to get it fixed.
There isnt realy a fixed price and the level of custumer service was dreadful.
I would still recomend this camera to anyone intrested in purchasing a new camera, the sony a100 is already fighting with its competetris ...
