I purchased this camera last year and have since used it more a variety of general and professional photos.
As a basic digital SLR it does a very good job and is perfect for general and amateur photography with a variety of easy to use features and image stabilisation technology. When set to "Auto" mode, the camera will do pretty much everything for you and will work out exposure and focus with very good precision. A fast image processor also helps for taking quick snaps! There are a number of useful modes for adapting the camera quickly and easily to different kinds of photos and lighting conditions and the lens supplied will give you a good range of shots.
I have also tried taking some more professional photos with this camera as well, using the manual features and different lenses. One very handy point to mention is that this camera is compatible with the old Minolta lenses - which are cheaper and often better that the Sony ones (for more advanced photos). The manual settings are easy to use, however are a little rigid, and I find do not give you the same flexibility as some of the more expensive digital SLRs or manual ones (Cannon ones are very good for this), however for the price of the Sony, the settings are reasonable.
Down to the most important point - image quality. I cannot really find fault with this at all, and this is comparable to some of the much more expensive Canon and Pentax SLRs! The lens provided with this camera is not the best for very close up and macro photography, however it tends to perform very well for any other shots - and there is always the option to change to a better lens for these purposes.
Overall - excellent camera for the price! Well built camera with the Sony stamp of quality and product support - would recommend for general and some professional photography.
