The introduction of a LIve View system and tiltable LCD screen make it a really good camera for enthusiasts that are making the leap from digital compact or bridge cameras.
Before buying the Alpha 350 I used a Sony DSC F-717 and found shooting with the 350s automatic mode to be a doddle but it has plenty of features to keep the more experienced photographer happy.
I find all of the buttons to be in pleasing positions and have no trouble handling the camera for both landscape (horizontal) and portrait (vertical) aspect pictures.
The standard 25-70 mm lens kit that comes with most offers is a good performer although I find the autofocus does struggle very occasionally when shooting macro pictures.
It is a good performer in low light levels with a good ISO range (although suffers from a bit of digital noise at the higher end) and the Super SteadyShot does help.
Since I had upgraded from another Sony camera I would have liked it to take Sony Memory sticks as well as Compact Flash cards but a converter is available for Memory Stick Pro. This means that my existing full size memory sticks cannot be used but the new fast Compact Flash cards certainly perform very good.
The 14.2 megapixel resolution produces some very detailed shots and I have had JPEG pictures blown up to 18x12 inch poster size without any noticeable loss of quality. RAW shooting is an option although produces very large files.
All in all I am extremely satisfied with the camera and envisage using it for years to come (although I will need to purchase a couple more lenses to complete the package - a telephoto zoom and a dedicated macro lens).
How helpful would this review be to a person making a buying decision? Rating guidelines
Overall a good review but I would have given a much higher rating if it had been more detailed. I just feel that for something so expensive, and for a complete novice to read some of the technical aspects and language in this review without it being explained is rather confusing and non-persuasive? However, for someone who really understands all of this it may be a very helpful review. I just feel that with much more detail it could be improved greatly. Just let me know if you re-write it and want me to change my rating - i happily will :) x
