The topic of this awesome journey in the discworld is satire rock and roll, Soul Music.
Imp y Celyn is a young harp bard who travels to Ankh-Morpork where he hopes to find some sort of work. Once there, he meets up with an odd pair of fellow musicians, Glod the dwarf and Lias the troll.
The three of them end up almost dragged by destiny and magic into a band when Imp discovers a strange magical guitar in a magical moving shop. The guitar seems almost to play itself, and it also seems to be taking a very strange effect on Imp, who changes his name to Buddy the lead guitarist in,,,,,, The Band With Rocks In.!
With none other than the Librarian playing keyboard.
Soon the band begins booking gigs that attract the attention of the wizards of Unseen University and a very well known street merchant by the name of ,,that's right you've guessed it C.M.O.T Dibbler..

At the same time else where Death is feeling extremely melancholy. He is extremely fed up and wants to know how to forget so try's to find out what humans do to forget (oh death will you never learn )
After seeking some not-so-helpful advice from his manservant, Albert, he decides to go on a journey to forget everything. And so ends up in the Klatchian Foreign Legion, a place so forgetful that the soldiers forget what they're saying in the middle of saying it as well as their names.
Somebody must take over his job, however, and this time the task falls to Susan, his granddaughter,. Susan has forgotten everything about being Death's granddaughter, so when the Death of Rats comes to fetch her help, she's very rational about the whole thing and that's the problem, she's very sceptical about the whole thing. Eventually though, she starts to remember things moastly dude to a kick start from Binky.
So she decides that she can do the job. But she starts suffering attacks of conscience, not wanting to follow the job description. She wonders why good people must die when they do, and why bad people can't die sooner leaving her in an awkward position when she comes to see Buddy.

Being a guitarist myself, as well as a big rock fan, I could relate to Soul Music on an extra level so I expect many others will feel the same..
Soul Music is a seriously hilarious story about commercialism and music, and how the two go together like acid and iron filings.
I particularly loved the wizards falling for the "Music with Rocks In", what with , Wizards wearing bell-bottom robes , leather robes with studs on with "Born To Rune" spelled out on the back.
DEATH wow funnier than ever . Now I know you might find that hard to believe after his fantastic, dramatic and comic performances in Mort and Reaper Man .But death in the foreign legion is absolutely hysterical, oh and trying to get drunk,,,,again always good for a laugh.
All round rippingly good read.
