Advantages: Very soft pillow, plays the music at a reasonable level, nice novelty. Disadvantages: Not washable and so has a limited life.

As I have spondylosis in my neck I am always on the look out for good pillows and that this was called'Sound Asleep' as it was so good.. At one corner of this pillow there is a lead which has a jack at the end, so that you can connect it to a music player. Something such as an MP3, IPOD or really any music equipment you have, that has a suitable connection for headphones. I guess you could even attach it to a radio or television!. The other end is attached to a lead which sits in the pillow and is attached to a small speaker. ... more
I recently noticed a Sound Asleep pillow in a local curtain and bedding store but did not quite realise what it actually was. As I have spondylosis in my neck I am always on the look out for good pillows and that this was called'Sound Asleep' as it was so good.. However this one was not what I would call a good pillow; in other words one which will aid restful sleep due to its' material etc. For one thing it felt very soft, just the sort of pillow Hubby likes, and it looked as if the support it would offer would not be appropriate for me. However taking a closer look I realised why it was called the Sound Asleep Pillow.
So you get the idea?
Now why this is perfect for my Hubby is he likes to fall asleep listening to music but this can be a bit of a pain for me. Although with this pillow the music can be heard slightly in the room it is very faint but still at a perfect level of sound for him. He has tried sleeping with small headphones on but finds these can be uncomfortable and they are prone to slipping out of place. The other reason Hubby likes some background music is because he is a night worker. When it is his the day of his work night shift he has to try and sleep during the day. Often there are many distractions for night workers trying to sleep during the day. He has found that when he has music playing via this pillow ,that other noises are less distracting and much less annoying. I suppose that's because the speaker is playing the sound so close up to you.
Since purchasing this pillow I have seen one or two similar ones on the market, especially on the Internet, however they are a little more expensive. The one I purchased, was £12.99, which I feel was a good price, for what is essentially a novelty item. It has a polyester filling and white cotton cover.
Overall this pillow has been a great buy but as with everything it's not perfect:- This pillow is not washable and so will have a limited life. It is not suitable for children under the age of 5 due to the risk of strangulation, with the lead. It is not a loud speaker and is simply designed to provide a personal listening experience.
It is recommended that:- Whatever playing device you are using is placed on the floor or a bedside table and not on the bed. You remove the detachable part of the cable when it is not in use.
So, would I recommend this Sound Asleep pillow?
Yes if you like a soft fluffy pillow and enjoy listening to music when you are in bed. You will need to bear in mind that it will not have the longevity of an ordinary pillow and with time, as the softness goes a little, the speaker and wire may become uncomfortable. However at the moment I have got one happy bunny at home so it was worth buying.
